The Most Unpopular President in History

Dereliction of Duty

Posted By Rod Kaufman

"Dereliction of duty", a very serious charge and one being leveled at the principle members of the Bush administration by the former general in charge in Iraq:

If it wasn't for the Republican congress constantly running interference for Bush, there might have been a measure of justice...

More Hope

In a second close contest involving a seat usually occupied by a Republican, another Democrat prevailed:

Laura Bush On Myanmar

Posted By Rod Kaufman

So Mrs Bush has criticized the government of Myanmar for failing to meet the "basic needs" of its people in the time of a natural disaster. Well, she can certainly speak from experience...

Impose a Windfall Tax on Big oil?

Posted By Rod Kaufman

Should we do it?
http://money.cnn.com/2008/05/06/news/economy/oil_profits_tax/index.htm?postversion=2008050612
We already know Bush's proclamation on how to pay for the increasing costs of gasoline: pay for it with your rebate checks! (Bush! Bush voters!!!)
My way would be to regulate speculation by tying the cost of oil to the actual costs involved in producing it with the fear factor removed. Or, some of you might advocate regulating big oil. Hmm, the Los angeles department of water and power along with Souhern California Edison have to go before a public commission in order to ask for rate hikes and are required to justify their requests. I wonder what the voters would do if the same method was applied to big oil...

Obama's Blueprint vs McCain's The Same

Posted By Rod Kaufman

An interesting contrast of information on the websites of the candidates: first the typical tried and true GOP fear tactic on security:

Then, a refreshing, actual plan of a vision for America:

Writing Your Politicians

Posted By Rod Kaufman

Lee,
Since the state troopers and the highway patrol are two two different entities (at least in Ca and probably in most if not all states)I wouldn't assume your letter had any impact at all. And having one state law entity augment another isn't new, it probably happens a lot more than you'll ever know. I think it's highly unlikely your letter had anything to do a policy decision that was arrived at by the governor of your state...

McCain's Campaign Latest Resignation

Posted By Rod Kaufman

Russel,
Ya gotta keep up on current events! The McCain campaign has already explained why the McCains don't file jointly and Cindy doesn't release her returns: "It's to protect the children!" Protect their children!? From what? But you have to admire the McCain campaign for their explanation since it kills two birds with one stone:
1. It dodges the tax return issue
2. It brings up the tried and true GOP doctrine of "family values!" Afterall, who is the better keeper of American family values than the Republican party?

McCain's Campaign Latest Resignation

Posted By Rod Kaufman

All we seem to get from the conservative posters around here is a whole lot of pooh about Obama and a few of his previous relationships and acquaintances but Mr McCain is somehow above it all.
That's hardly the case. One of his previous campaign managers resigned when it became known that this Az rep was indicted for a land fraud scheme. And now for the latest resignation:

It appears that McCain and his staff should have vetted the guy a lot more carefully than they did. You would think somebody who's "experienced" as McCain would know better. Gee, I wonder what Laura would say...
