Dave…

I got into astronomy first, but my wife has become interested enough that I bought her an Orion 10" Intellescope last year. I go out more than she does, but when we go together (mostly with our club), we have a great time. BTW, she has been secretary of our club for the past three years and does most of the work on the newsletter. My schedule limits me to editing and writing an article once in a while.

Your Favorite Fiction---Top Five!

Posted By Fred Lusk

Jeff…

Except for the local newspaper, I don't read much fiction. Anyway, here are four of my favorites, all of which I have read at least twice:

* "Peck's Bad Boy and His Pa" by George W. Peck (1883). My copy (handed down from my grandfather and father) dates from 1900. Peck was a newpaper publisher, mayor of Milwaukee, and governor of Wisconsin. IMHO, the Peck's Bad Boy series is some of the funniest stuff ever written.

* "Von Ryan's Express" by David Westheimer. A good POW escape story. The movie was OK, the book is better.

* "The Tunnel at Loibl Pass" by Andre Lacaze. Another good POW escape story.

* "The Trial of Adolf Hitler" by Philippe van Rjndt. What if Hitler had survived the war and stood trial?

Most the fiction I DO read is historical fiction. There's a lot of good WWII historical fiction out there. I also like the Sherlock Holmes stories (A.C. Doyle) and Mark Twain (Tom Sawyer, Huck Finn, etc.), but haven't read them in a while. I read 30-40 books a year, and maybe one or two are fiction.

The last time I saw that tree was about four years ago. It died--IIRC--about 10 years ago due to homo sapiens idiota carving into the trunk.

Brett…

I am passing this info along to the members of the Central Valley Astronomers via email. I don't know if anyone will contact you, but my hunch is that several might. I know this will be a great star party.

I have an E-1. I shot the moon a couple of months ago, but that's all I have had time to do. Here's the link to the photo I posted:
