The sun today, August 15, 2004

Posted By Paul Maxson

Well, the clouds cooperated today, but the conditions are average at best. More clouds are pouring in as we speak. Since I'm off to work until Thursday again, this will no doubt be my last image of AR 656...well, maybe not...tune in tomorrow...**grin**. AR661 is doing quite well also.

AR 656, very large mosiac

Posted By Paul Maxson

I've been wanting to try a mosiac with a sunspot image and yesterday AR 656 sort of cooperated...

Even MORE Sunspot images!!

Posted By Paul Maxson

As if we are getting enough sunspot images already...I was able to capture AR661 and 656 about 4.5 hours apart yesterday (August 15). A few hours after the second images were shot we had a nice thunderstorm.

Sunspot images for August 19 - August 21, 2004

Posted By Paul Maxson

Hi all,

Been keeping busy these last 3-4 days. I'm building a new computer and taking my time getting it together (for those interested, it's a P4-3 GHz and almost finished!!). Anyway, taking advantage of breaks in the clouds the past 3 days, here are my latest solar images. As you can see, seeing has only been average. Hoping for more images tomorrow!! As soon as we get the chances for thunderstorms cleared out I want to pull the C925 out and see what Venus looks like!! smile

I'm experimenting with a new labeling method. Hope you like the mosiac as well, sorry for the large size.

Time for this birthday boy to turn in!!

Solar images from August 22, 2004

Seeing was pretty decent this morning when I was imaging the Sun. The temperature did rise 7 degrees during the 1/2 hour I was shooting. Anyway, here is the result of my observing run for the sun this morning. Sorry, no mosiac this time.

It's off to work until Thursday again, so hopefully there will be something to image by then.

Meade Apo's

Posted By Paul Maxson

Does anyone have an opinion on the quality of the Meade Apo's. Specifically, I'm thinking about the 5" Apo to do solar imaging with.

Thanks!!

Opposite ends of the solar system!!

Posted By Paul Maxson

Doing the opposite extremes in our solar system, I was able to capture Neptune for the first time ever, and a couple of small sunspots. Neptune was acquired in the C925, and the sunspots in the ED80.

Neptune isn't much to look at, but it's cool to get it under my belt!! smile

More sunspots

Posted By Paul Maxson

I was able to image the two small groups on the sun today (AR 663 and 664). Seeing was fair as I was getting rapid heating during the run. These spots are getting very small, and unless AR 656 survives another trip around the Sun, we may be nearly featureless for a while.
