My understanding of the ASV is that it is a private residential development geared towards astronomers who live there on a permanent basis. I don't see anything anywhere where they have accomodations for visiting astronomers unless you happen to know someone who lives there. It isn't like the Star Hill Inn that used to be in Sapello, NM and was a B&B type environment.

Hi Gerry,
I just went through this a few months ago. I emailed Heiko at two different email addresses more than a couple of times. Out of the blue about 5-6 WEEKS later he contacted me and I was able to purchase the software and register my camera. He will eventually respond, but it is extremely irritating to have no response for such a long period of time, especially when you are trying to be a CUSTOMER!! The sofware is worth the money and wait, but it isn't the way I would conduct business, that's for sure. You are correct...Adirondack is no longer in business so there are no business partners in the USA to work with. This compounds the problem. If you want the software you are going to have to wait it out. Maybe send a repeat email every week or two until you get a response.

My favorite projector is this one made by Ed Jones. It employs something like an f/50 lens and a large flat attached to a board. Simple and safe...the f ratio is so long that you really can't get burned. The flat rotates to catch the sun and put it through the lens. I have mounted it on my Losmandy G8 so I can track. I place a large white board on an easel at the focal point, yards away, and it provides a rather large easy to see image of the sun and sunspots.

I attended the WSP for my first time this year and was fortunate enough to run into Joe there with his 32" dob and spent several nights observing with him and others. Since I flew and couldn't bring any equipment it was a welcome treat! I saw Centaurus A and Omega Centauri for the first time, among loads of other objects through his scope. Al Nagler was a big fan of this scope, also. WOW is about all I can say. On one night the seeing was so good that he was pumping up the power to bizarre levels on Saturn. Moons were discs and you could see many divisions in the rings, as well as the often talked about spokes. The fact that this scope has a drive system made it about as good as it could get. The optical performance is now quite astounding! 8)

Thank you for the replies, guys! I think I am going to go the AP route. They ain't cheap, but it will meet the requirements I am looking to satisfy...weight, stability, portability, etc. I had heard quite a bit of buzz regarding PWT and their availability, so that was never really an option for me. That's too bad because it looks like they manufactured some nice equipment.
