Stop the Speculation on Oil

Posted By Rod Kaufman

Despite a strengthening dollar and falling demand for oil, prices went up anyway because an analyst thinks it might:
http://money.cnn.com/2008/05/28/markets/oil_prices/index.htm?cnn=yes
That's not quite as bad as the one I heard last year: "Oil prices rose upon fear of oil prices rising!"
Control the speculation!

Re: Latest assessment from Iraq

Posted By Rod Kaufman

I remember Rumsfeld stating, "We got em on the run!"
Now I read either this guy or someone else in the administration stated the very same thing last week!
Notice, too, that all of these supposed gains are qualified with words such as "reversible", "fragile" etc. Nor does this report really address the civil war between the Sunnis and Shiites and the tentative deals that the US has made to temporarily attentuate the ongoing conflict.
I recall McBush's last vist to Iraq wherein McCain was ushered around with platoons of military escorts, attack helicopters, and armored humvees in the safest part of the green zone, a golden opportunity for photo ops.
I also don't see McBush revising his mission accomplished 2013 end date in light of the "latest assessment" from Iraq, either...

What's On Cheney's Mind

Posted By Rod Kaufman

When Dick isn't busy digesting raw intelligence or covering his own tracks, he's thinking about...inbreeding!

I also see he's a distant relative of Barack Obama. Gee, I wonder how that happened...

Busting US Contractors in Iraq

Posted By Rod Kaufman

Well, they've dinged Haliburton subsidiaries in the past but at least they got another Texas-based "defense" contractor:

Ah, yes, it's nice to see it when the "coalition of the willing" that's really the coalition of the billing gets busted...

The McCain loophole

Posted By Rod Kaufman

This is outrageous and it demonstrates what the GOP is and always has been about, maintaining the status quo for a privileged few at the expense of the nation. As one commentator stated yesterday on KNX news radio, the incompetence and greed of the major players on Wall Street are ruining our economy and we can count on more of the same from the McBush wrecking crew...

It's Over

Posted By Rod Kaufman

McBush and Obama are already tied in a poll of polls and for it to be that close at this point even with the unmitigated disaster of the Bush policies inflicted upon the country should tell anyone that we will have more of the same for a minimum of another four years, if not eight.
As most of know, the election of Dubya simply represented the dumbing down of America and now that an opportunity for change exists, you would expect people would know better and flock to the party of change.
Join the insane, vote for McCain:

The Bush Legacy

Posted By Rod Kaufman

Russell,
I had a bit more of an exotic orientation for the location of the Bush library:
Guantanamo Bay!
There, visitors can be treated to daily hydrotherapy treatments while undergoing debriefings of their political recollections of the Bush years. Personalized tours with guide dogs are available. For those who prefer to fondly recall their support of president Bush and vice president Cheney, nightly prayers of thanks are offered in any religious preferences that include the born again, since that is how you will wish to feel when you exit the experience of the Bush library...

Over, well maybe, not not done.

Obama's website certainly contains much info than the photo ops and patriotic slogans and the like that you find on the McCain site. However, in fairness to both candidates, their party platform and policies advanced in the campaign still have the time and the need to be fully articulated so let's give them the opportunity to do so before we decide on issues that have yet to be addressed...

Limiting Oil Manipulation

Posted By Rod Kaufman

Finally an attempt to stop oil market manipulation:
http://www.reuters.com/article/politicsNews/idUSN0538841220080605?feedType=RSS&feedName=politicsNews
While this bill may not stop the oil companies from doing what they did a few months ago(exporting US oil overseas while knowing full well what this action would do here), it would reduce the proclivity to do so. And it would likely reduce the 1/3 or more of the cost of oil attributed to speculation.
But one thing is for sure, it's a safe bet the Republicans are probably looking for ways to block it...
