Airline CEOs on Oil Speculation

Posted By Rod Kaufman

Oil company CEOs have formed a lobbying group to fight oil speculation. Today, one CEO noted NINE airlines have shut down and two others are in chapter 11 proceedings due to the run-up in oil.

The lobbying website is:

Today oil speculators shot up the cost of oil $5.00/barrel after a supposed Iranian missile test that, according to our own military, never happened. No supply disruptions, no loss of oil, not one drop.
Stop the speculation now!

The Gramm/McCain Explanation

Posted By Rod Kaufman

Opps, it seems we got it all wrong. Phil Gramm wasn't talking about Americans when he said we're a nation of whiners. Nope, he was just talking about our leaders! But, there's no backtracking here with Dr Phil Gramm, because, according to him, we're all still in a mental recession. And John McCain didn't know anything about Phil's comments, even if he is his top adviser. I'm glad McCain cleared up that one...

McCain's Senior Moment

Posted By Rod Kaufman

One of many, but this one's on tape:
http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2008/07/10/mccain-avoids-viagra-question/
A CNN Republican analyst said this was the worst example of a candidate attempting to explain a position that he's seen in 40 years. Watch the tape, it's worth wading through the commercial that precedes it. I'm not sure if this is really a senior moment or a TIA (temporary ischemic attack)...

Obama's VP Choice: A Republican?

Posted By Rod Kaufman

http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2008/07/11/obama-heading-to-iraq-with-republican-hagel-democrat-reed/
Chuck Hagel might not be a bad choice. The decision to have a Republican as a running mate would demonstrate Obama's genuine desire to unify the country after the reign of the great divider mercifully comes to an end...

Interesting New Yorker cover

Posted By Rod Kaufman

Here's the response from the Obama and McCain campaigns:
http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2008/07/14/obama-camp-calls-new-yorker-cover-tasteless-and-offensive/
I agree with the consensus of both campaigns. The cover kind of reminded me of CNN opinions elicited at random in a southern state last week. One woman remarked she wouldn't vote for Obama "because he's a muslim" while a southern "gentleman" stated the only change he associated with a black man was change sitting in the black man's cup...

Obama: Seizing the Moment on Iraq

Posted By Rod Kaufman

http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/07/14/obama.oped/index.html
I think Obama (as well as other Democrats)is correct in seizing the Iraqi initiative to provide a framework for a withdrawl. Bush, pigheaded as usual, refuses to recognize ANY timetable, including that of McCain. So much for an independent Iraq, in Bush's tunnel vision.
Look, either Iraq has a viable government or they don't. If, in fact we recognize their elected officials as part of a governing Democracy (a stated goal of the Bush administration), then we need to respect their demands that we leave their country. If we don't, then we need to acknowledge their is no independent state of Iraq and turn the matter over to the UN. Bush and company have no business dictating policy in Iraq...

Another McCain Senior Moment

Posted By Rod Kaufman

http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2008/07/15/mccain-again-cites-current-events-in-czechoslovakia/
I didn't know McCain doesn't know how to use "the google" or send an email. Then again, our current president doesn't read a newspaper, either. It must be some sort of Republican tradition...

Oil: China? India?

Posted By Rod Kaufman

Oil prices dropped big time on (can you believe it?) decreased demand!
http://money.cnn.com/2008/07/16/markets/oil/index.htm?cnn=yes
What happened to increased demand from China and India? Did it suddenly just drop off during the night? I mean those two countries are always the culprits according to Bush, various speculators, Bush, various speculators and on and on. Even though oil prices ought to be at $60/barrel, speculation has jacked it up big time but I guess they just forgot about China and India, until tomorrow when they are back in vogue along with Iran, various geopolitical concerns, post election runup etc...

Reversing Course on Iran

Pelosi: Bush a "Total Failure"

Posted By Rod Kaufman

How true:
http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/07/17/pelosi.interview/index.html
You name the issue and Bush has tanked on it. The record of congress sucks because of Republican cronies sucking up to the prez.
Enjoy more of the same with McCain...
