Hawaiian reef fish

Posted By James Brown

Hi again; I had soooooo much fun with a Canon Powershot A520 and waterproof case in Hawaii. The water was clear and the reef spectacular. We snorkled from the shore every day.

Here are a few of my better pictures. (I got about 50-60 quality photos.... I am sparing you the 500 or so (no kidding) which had questionable focus or were great pictures of fish that were "right there just a millisecond ago!" wink )

The first is Maneoneo (a Sailfin Tang)

Re: GANG MEMBERS

Hi Keith:

My impression is that the ads rotate across the front page pretty randomly. If you go away and come back to the home page, the ads are different. I think you might be mistaken about the fairness of the home page rotation.

I have no idea why we can't rate commercial sponsors. To me that is not a big deal though.... All my dealings here have been with other rate-able amateurs.

I did read the prior thread, and to the extent you were attacked it seems to me that it was because you were pretty darned vague and obscure. Maybe not intentionally, but that is how it came across to the casual reader.

Take care, Jim

Interesting. I will make a 100% prediction here. If Hillary runs and loses, we will read on Astromart the very next day that all GOP voters are sexist pigs who don't think for themselves. It will be very similar to the garbage that was posted here in November 2004, except that those who vote R for whatever reason will be characterized as "woman-haters" instead of "idiots." We will be cast as "misogynists" instead of "bigots."

This assumes of course that Hillary runs and loses. I am presently of the opinion that she will run and win. There is a long time though, between now and November 2008.

It does surprise me that no moderate non-polarizing candidate has made a serious run as the D nominee. Two years ago, I was talking up Evan Bayh, but he recently tossed his support to Hillary. I guess my kind of Democrat is just too much of a right winger to be nominated. It is a shame, because someone like Bayh would be an absolute lock to win the general election.

DMK USB2 cameras

Posted By James Brown

If I am reading this web page correctly, DMK is now offering a line of USB cameras that matches up with their existing line of firewire cameras.

http://www.theimagingsource.com/en/products/cameras/usb_mono/

Is this new? I do not recall seeing USB cameras on the imaging source page before. If the camera specs are the same, is there any reason now for a USB based laptop owner to go the firewire adapter route, if one is considering a DMK camera?

Thanks for any insight.

Elk herd

Posted By James Brown

The local elk herd was below our house this September 21. They group up and bugle all night long during the mating season. These were taken at dawn.

This year the herd included an extraordinary number of bulls, including this relative youngster. He's big but no where near as imposing as the older bulls. He spent his time circling the outside of the herd, trying to sneak in toward the females when the two most dominant bulls were distracted.

How 'bout them Sox

Posted By James Brown

I know we have a few Sox fans in here. Steve? Rick? Anyone?...

Are you guys just going to let Josh Beckett's complete game shutout slip by un-commented upon? Are you all that superstitious?

Al Gore

It seems to me that Gore would be an absolute lock to win the general election in November. Yet he sincerely seems determined not to run. Do any of you think that he will change his mind?

A timely article

Posted By James Brown

This article is very interesting and very timely as I contemplate watching tonight's Rockies game.... alone.

Bedtime for my boys is 9:00-ish. The game starts at 8:16 MST and will end at 11:30 or so. We're pretty easy about bedtime, but midnight on a school night? Ain't gonna happen.

I guess I shouldn't complain. Imagine the joy East of the Mississippi (Assuming the Rockies or D-Backs have some homesick fans way back East.) Nothing like a 9th inning that starts at 1:30 a.m. cwy

Tragically, the TV schedule is ruining the great parent/child bonding opportunity of October baseball.
