Simply spectacular! From color to resolution to, well, everytying, it sure seems to be a winning combo. Congratulations.

Taylor,
It's not the fact that you shot this from downtown Lincoln that I find amazing, but that you could find the peace and tranquility needed for this hobby smack dab in the middle of your frat house!
Nice work,
Larry

Love the wide field, love the colors, love the detail you still managed to hold on the Eagle. Great job,

NGC7331 with added bonus!!

Looks like you have some nice signal in there (really love how your captured the background galaxies) but, yep, big gradient. Actually looks like some big vignetting from the 3.3 FR, at least that's what I get with my 3.3 on an 8" SCT. Did you shoot flats? They would certainly help. Or, what processing software are you using? Lots of them have gradient removal processes that can help eliminate the vignetting, especially when it's so even (at least that's what I find with AstroArt and have been playing with it in PixInsight). That way you won't find yourself overstretching to overcome it. I think that will help make this shot outstanding!
Hope my two cents makes sense,
Larry

Opinion on a new imager

Posted By Larry Durst

Hey Bob,
Not sure what cost range you have in mind, but I began with a Starlight Xpress MX716--still using it. I have been very happy with it. They come up used fairly often, particularly now that they've been replaced by the SXV USB 2 cameras. It's monochrome but there is also a one-shot color version. I began shooting black and white, then added an inexpensive filter holder and filters as my experience and budget both improved. Also upgradable to STAR2000 self-guiding and/or SXV Auto-guider.
This is just my personal experience, with nothing else to really compare it to.
Regards,
Larry

Jim,
Nice shot! Your processing seems dead-on, particularly how you've managed to resolve individual stars right into the core. Also fun to see someone's images of the same subject over time.
Really nice work,
Larry
