Mirror lock down on 8" GPS LX200

Posted By Anthony Orzechowski

How far to the right and left should the knob turn before you know it is locked down? Can you see when the electronic focus is working (moving in and out) Nothing seems to focus correctly until I focus manually.
Any help would be appreciated!

Fixed and portable pier

Posted By Anthony Orzechowski

I was surfing somewhere when I found a pier type mount that was portable, but also converted into a perminant mount by adjusting the legs. I can't remember where I seen it?
Can anyone shed some light on this?

Any luck with the Pro Digital camera's

Posted By Anthony Orzechowski

I am looking to purchase either the Nikon D2H or the Koday new SLR/Pro digital camera. The new Kodak is capable of up to 60 seconds. Any idea's? I know these are $$$$$ of dollars, but they would also fit the bill for something else I am doing.

Concrete vs Steel "I" Beams

Posted By Anthony Orzechowski

Any imput on this would be greatly appreciated!!!!
I have a 16" with the pier and a steel plate for mounting. I also have a deck that used to go partially on one side of a 21' oval pool. The pool has been removed and I am going to place an observatory in it's place. The deck sits 4 feet from the ground, and I will need to elevate the height of the pier to around 10 to 15' high to help clear my house roof on one side. Since this will be in an 10' observatory, I am thinking of pouring a large pad, and having the steel beams bolted and then tied together to form the base structure to place the pier assembly on.
Any opinions would greatly be appreciated..

Building custom mount

Posted By Anthony Orzechowski

Does anyone know who can manufacture an equatorial mount if I supply the gears? I am looking for someone to be able to build the mount with 15 and 18" gears. Any ideas on who custom builds mounts....

Thanks

Tony

Telescope Rentals

Posted By Anthony Orzechowski

Hello Everyone
Would like to runthis past everyone (do not know if it has been discussed before) but in my frustration to choose, purchase and use Astronomy equipment, I am considering the possibility of starting a telescope rental operation. I would offer the following refractors (to start)
TMB, Takahashi, TEC, Astro Physics, Stellavue and William Optics. I am considering the "High End Scopes' APO's Trippletts.... 110mm up to 150mm

I do not know anywhere you can go (except a local or national star party) to see differnt scopes (and NEAF) but can't really try them out for a week or two. I wonder if there would be a market for those of us who would like to try out the higher end scopes 1st before dropping 4K or more on a scope. Scopeguard case would be a must, and the ability to also rent any Nagler, Ethos, Meade or even Nikon eyepieces.

Just throwing this out for suggestions...
Thanks
Tony

End of Meade

Posted By Anthony Orzechowski

Just looked at Meade's FCC filing as of Jan. 14, 2013 and the management dues not expect the company to be able to maintain its current operation. " B. Liquidity
The Company has incurred significant recurring losses and negative cash flows from operations which have resulted in reduced liquidity and a weakened financial position as of November 30, 2012. The Company also has endured working capital problems caused by product development delays during the past twelve months. In addition, in January 2013, the Company’s largest customer, and one additional customer, notified the Company that they had unilaterally, and without prior notice, decided to indefinitely hold payment of approximately $0.6 million in accounts receivable, which will further reduce the Company’s already limited liquidity. Due to these issues, the Company’s management now believes substantial doubt exists about the Company’s ability to continue as a going concern and that it must modify the Company’s business model and operations to reduce spending to a sustainable level. Such actions could cause the Company to be unable to execute its business plan, take advantage of future opportunities, respond to competitive pressures or customer requirements. It may also cause the Company to delay, scale back or eliminate some or all of its research and development programs, seek opportunities in a strategic relationship or business combination, or to reduce or cease operations."
So, who still wants to buy a Meade???? What will happen if they go under possibly this year?

Telescope rentals

Posted By Anthony Orzechowski

I would like to ask everyone, especially those in the refractor forum the question or opinion about renting high end scopes? I am talking about the Astro Physics, TEC, TeleVue, Takahashi and Stellarvue. Anything over a 127is from TeleVue to a TEC 160ED or a Takahashi 150

Just asking for feedback if anyone thinks this might be worth discussing. Of course the scopes would come in a scopeguard type case, no eyepiece or diagonal. Rental would be for a minimum of 10 day (some time for some clear weather.

Thanks
Tony
