Tom,
I see you have a CI700 mount. I also have the same mount, but am having trouble with it. Is there a way to contact you in private to get some help through e-mail without posting my e-mail for all to kmow? I don't know how the forums e-mail work.
I also live in northern Calif.
Thanks
Robert

Help observing M110 and the Double Cluster

Posted By Robert Edwards

Hi Adam,

Last night I was looking at M110.
What I do is center M31 in my C8 using a 35mm EP.
Using my slow motion control I drop M31 to the bottom of my view and keep dropping M31 out of view until you can just see some of the glow from M31, At this point M110 should be in you FOV.

Good luck,
Robert

losmandy G11 vs Celestrons CGE

Posted By Robert Edwards

Hi Brent,

I don't think you would go wrong with CGE or G11 for the short haul, that said there are some important things to consider with the CGE.

I owned a Celestron CI700 for about four years and was a good mount.
The problem with the CI700 was the clutchs, as time went on.
The importance of telling you about the clutchs is, at a point when Celestron stopped production of the CI700, they also stopped supporting the mount. I was never able to get help with different issues with mount or get any parts. Myself and others this was not a good way for Celestron to end a product run, and the support we all do and will need at some point in time.

When I sold the Ci700 I bought the Losmandy G11 with Gemini. If I need a part or info for the mount Losmandy, it's their . From the first G11 made to the current production, parts and service are there for you.

I having been in the spot of needing help with parts and service from Celestron for their mount, and did not have much luck.

I do have to say that Celestron is a top company for asrto products. I have three of there telescopes and love them.

As for the G11 with Gemini, it looks great, works perfect, tracks better that the CI700 did (CI700 had very good tracking), the Gemini is dead of most all the time.

With all is said if you see my posting of my G11 for sale soon, please don't think I didn't like the G11 after all, I bought the G11 to use while I was in the list for a AP900 that is coming next month.

What ever you get, just go out and have fun.
