Anyone know how use a meade LPI as an autoguider w

Posted By Johann Glansdorp

Want to autoguide the CGE. Got a meade LPI that I would like to use for this. Most sites tell me the LPI can only be used as a autoguider with Meade mounts.
I notice the GGE autoguide port has deticated inputs for autoguiding so I know I can not just plug the LPI into it. Seen some software that looks like it might do the trick. KD something it was called.
Any suggestions.

Thanks to all

Johann

Vintage 6" F8

The other night I had this scope out in the Washington DC area and had the finest viewing of Saturn I have ever had. This is a amazing task for any scope in these light polluted skies. Thanks Roland for making such fine telescopes. I pushed this scope with a TV big Barlow and TV 5mm radian and the view was still tack sharp. The view of the rings was breathtaking. The cloud structure of Saturn could be seen clearly. Looked like the pictures I see so many people submit to Astromart. It only proves what so many have said so many times. There is no substitute for quality optics. Makes me lust for one of the newer AP scopes.

Thanks again Roland.

Planet X

Any news about this planet. Seems to be a lot of rumors going around. One I heard stated that we are doomed in the year 2012 due to planet X.

Older AP refractors

Posted By Johann Glansdorp

Seems that a good number of Roland's work from the 80's is coming up for sale. These are good scopes. I am lucky enough to have two 6" F8 scopes from that era right now. Going to have to sell one sooner or later. Will be interesting to see if both sets of optics are the same. Have not had a chance to do that. I got the AP guide scope with one of them. That by itself is a great scope. Was really surprised by the optics. Seems to be an 80mm F8 scope with Vixen lens. I was tempted to buy the 5" and 4" scope that came up for sale recently. Sort of start my own AP museum :-) There is a Star ED on Ebay right now.

Unitron 75 MM refactor

Posted By Johann Glansdorp

HI

Have a Unitron 75mm refractor. The colimation adjustment on the lens appears as though there is something missing. On other refractors I have had it the whole cell would adjust. On this unitron it looks like it is the main ring that holds the lens in place that is adjusting and it looks like it is tilting the lens in the cell. If I shake the tube the lens rattles inside the lens. This cannot be right. Am I missing something of this lens assembly?????

Kodak Type 1 922mm F8 Telephoto lens

Posted By Johann Glansdorp

Does anybody have any experience with this lens? Bought this lens a few months ago and could not use it because I had no way of mounting it. Came in a nicely machined tube with a alti azmuth type mount. Crude focuser that does work. Set it up last night and was surprised at the crisp view of Saturn in poor seeing with a 6mm Radian. Could not really do a star test because it was clouding up. This is the first of the aerial lenses I have seen that actually perform like a telescope lens.

End of the world

There is a website that caught my attention

http://solarstormwarning.com/

I thought this was really interesting in how they got the 12/21/12 date for this event to align with the ending of the Mayan callender.

comments should be interesting about this website.

10" AP maksutov

Roland

there is one of these for auction on Astromart. There is some discussion on Cloudy Nights as to how the mirror and corrector are figured. Some say they are all spherical. I doubt it because of the reviews I have seen of the scope. I doubt an all spherical system could perform that well.
would you mind providing comment?

thanks
