Tak Teegul or DiscMount DC6 for TEC140

Posted By Eddie Ho

Dear Evan

I read a posting in TEC/Yahoo group about putting the Tec-140 on Tak Teegul Mount which has slo-mo function. I got my TEC-140 #117. It is such a gem! I love to play around with the focusor and the rotator. Fun fun fun! So it is understandable that I want to get the best Alt-azu mount to mate with it. The choice I narrow down to is DiscMount DC-6, that is until I read the TEC/Yahho posting about the TEC-140/Teegul combo. That put me into 2nd thought about the DiscMount. I read with surprise that the Tak Teegull can ssupport the wt. of Tec140. Then the next Tec/Yahoo posting confuse me further. Another reader use the Dsicmount upto 300X and just finger knudge the scope for tracking! I always thought that the Teegul can only support the capcity of Sky90. Presently I have a Universal Astronomics Surveyor wood tripod plus the dual axle Giro mount. Very stable but not smooth enough. Which way should I go: Discmount or the Tak Teegul? Can you fellows help me out?

Technical merits of Mewlon design

Posted By Eddie Ho

To all Mewlon owners out there, can you tell me why you guys buy and keep these babies? It seems that there are very few Mewlons out there for sale in Astromart.

Bogen Tripod: Recommended accessories?

How about a Bogen mini gear head. It's good for slow mo with my TV85 + Gitzo Mountaineer Carbon Fiber tripod. But fast tracking is not suitable.

Zeiss 8x30, Nikon 10x42 Superior E +......

Posted By Eddie Ho

I have a Zeiss 8x20b Compact Victory. Somewhow it is brighter then my Fuji 2x22. So I can vouch for your experience of s smaller aperture bino being brighter then a larger aperture one. What does the trick? Coating, prism /glass types or design. It can be a combination of many factors.

For the 3 high power bino that you have listed I personally will prefer the Nikon 12x50SE. I do not like to use a mount like you do. Yet the 12x Nikon can be handholdable. I have a pair & I like the performance very muck. Sure it lives up to the legend of the Superior E series.

Short first test of Coronado PST

Posted By Eddie Ho

Thanks for this first hand info. The scope is good enough to shell out he $499 vs the multi-grand difference for some better view. I think this product has priced itself with a good enough performance and carve a nich in the solor scope market. Quite like what the Orion Ed80 do to the Apo scopes.
