Terminator

Posted By Eddie Casey

Hi Guys, stiched a few toucam shots in photoshop. Surprised how well they slotted together. About 12 separate images in all. Bit burn't out in the south mind.

Cheers, Eddie.

Saturn 29/12/03

Posted By Eddie Casey

Bit humble compared to most posts, but here is saturn with a simple LX10 and x2 barlow.

Happy new year to all.

Cheers, Eddie.

Toucam white balance.

Posted By Eddie Casey

just wondered what white balance setting you guys used on the toucams for planetary imaging. Spent an age last night playing with gamma/saturation etc. Trying to rediscover a perfect set of parameters I once used and have now forgotten!

DSLR question

Posted By Eddie Casey

Guys, can I assume there is absolutely no merit in the canon 10d over the 300d for astrophotography? The 10d has a higher film rating at 3200 but I'm led to believe its unusable astronomically. I'd be interested to know everyones opinions about other dslr brands, canon seems to rule the roost so to speak.

IR blocking filter

Posted By Eddie Casey

Anyone advocate the ir blocking filter when imaging with the toucam. Seems to be a lot of conflicting advice out there. Just read on one guys website "the IR filter is essential for imaging Jupiter". Seems there are many fine images out there captured without it. Wondered what you guys all thought. I've included a pic of saturn taken on the 17th of feb. I'm managing to get better colours by using the auto white balance as mentioned here. Wes is right though it would probably have been better unchecking it as my frames do have colour variations.

Nikon opinions

Posted By Eddie Casey

I'm in the market for a DSLR, canon is an obvious choice but wondered if anyone had any experience with Nikon. There doesn't seem to be much out there from the D100 but the new D70 is being discussed on the yahoo digital uses group. Theres a thread at the moment which pits the canon 10d and D70 on dark frames.

planetary imaging and SCT's

Posted By Eddie Casey

In the past threads have spiralled on regarding the good old SCT. Many would be less than complimentary when it came to the issue of planetary imaging. I wonder how attitudes have changed with the many excellent images routinely posted on sites like this obtained with the humble webcam. Check out Rolands superb jupiter images taken with the C8 in the CCD images section. These images hold up against any taken with other designs of scope. It takes the argument out of the classroom and shows what the SCT owner has been saying for years!!

12"SCT, portable or not?

Posted By Eddie Casey

Guys, are there many out there who transport the 12" meade SC on a regular basis? I'm toying with the idea of buying one but won't be setting up a fixed site for a few years. All comments would be much appreciated. Maybe some kind of bogey would come in handy. I would have to knock up a few ramps maybe.

Cheers, Eddie.

hard cases

Posted By Eddie Casey

Anyone have any suggestions for cases to hold an Lx200 12"SC. I'm interested in a similar setup to the JMI hardcase only cheaper!!
