You are fine with this load for the EM-10. Tha actual load capacity upper limit is 25lbs with a short tubed telescope. A long tube creates a long moment arm that can cause vibration.

You are not damaging your gears, nor are you close to the limit. Enjoy your mount.

Takahashi made the die cast aluminum lens cover for some of their instruments to accomplish three goals. 1. Provide a high quality very durable cover. 2. Provide a convenient way to observe the Sun. Removing the center cover provides a convenient aperture for solar observation. 3. Provide identification. This is the TS [Takahashi Seisakusho] in the casting. Since Takahashi is also a sand casting company, it is easy for them to cast his lens cover.

The FSQ-106 lens cover can be used as an alternative to the TS sand cast cover.

They could have placed a cheap cover but they opted for the higher quality sand cast cover.

I can get replacement felt which would solve the problem. When the felt becomes compressed, simply replace it.

The FM-40 is the smaller brother of the FM-60. The FM-40 has a range of about 40x to 55x and the FM-60 is goes to about 72x. Yes they are variable. You will need a larger ground glass as well. I pick a bright star, focus and lock that's it for the evening.

All the FS Series have tubes shortened by about 2" to accommodate all the new instruments attached to them. Your tube if it is old enough may be 4" longer than the new one.

A new short tube is $99.

The mounting bracket holes for the 6x30 and 7x50 are the same. the FS-60C bracket has the same hole spacing as the FS-78.
