Mirror Coating

Posted By Gary Greenwald

I have a 6" mirror from a Criterion RV6 that needs to be recoated.

I found a service that will give me a 91% relectivity for $30. Is this reasonable ? Should I get a higher relectivity ? Can anyone recommend another company ?

Thanks

TScopes

Posted By Gary Greenwald

Anyone interested in these scopes - I attended the NEAF last week and met Ed Taychert and looked at his scopes. The pictures of this scope do not do it justice - they look great up close, have extremely smooth motion and are very light weight.

I am saving my pennies for the 14 inch !

By the way - Ed is a great guy and knows his stuff.

Wouldn't it be nice if....

Posted By Gary Greenwald

Instead of offering software improvements, Meade said...

1. All of our mirrors will come with a certification of quality, with a min 1/8 wave
2. Every mount will be tested prior to shipping
3. Every scope will come with a money back guarantee
4. Every service call will be answered within 3 minutes

Go ahead - charge another $200 - most people would willingly pay this upcharge.

Just my thoughts...

Meade LXD 75

It looks like the new Meade LXD 75 will address the shortcomings of the LXD 55. A good move by Meade!

Best Scope for 5 Year Old

Posted By Gary Greenwald

I am thinking of buying a used Astroscan or a new Celestron ExploraScope (Astroscan wannabe http://www.celestron.com/prod_pgs/tel/specialty_index.htm ).

If he doesn't go for it, I will keep as my travel grab and go scope - if he likes it, I could upgrade in a few years.

Any comments, suggestions - anybody with experience?

Thanks for your help

Gary

Celestron Fights Back?

Posted By Gary Greenwald

The Celestron site has a teaser - "It's what's next." - "Next Friday"

Is this their response to Meade's new line?

RC Meade Scopes - are they really better?

Posted By Gary Greenwald

Meade is introducing a new line of scopes that are less expensive than the first RC's. Are these scopes mainly for imaging, or is there a real improvement in viewing? Are they Mak-Newt like, rather than SC like in image quality?

Thanks
