Mars: Any takers on additional processing

Posted By Timothy Hornbeck

I'm not to good at processing after stacking.

Any takers to see what other details someone can bring out?

One Stop Shop for Astrophotography

Posted By Timothy Hornbeck

I am very new to the whole astrophotography (SLR) world. I was looking for information, links and publications, that give details on the following:

- What speed film to use in which situations (planets, moon, widefield)
- What shutter speeds to use in which situations (planets, moon, widefield)
- What f-stops to use in which situations (planets, moon, widefield)
- How long to expose (guided, unguided, fixed tripod)

I shot a roll this weekend, but haven't had it developed. I'm almost afraid to see what the shot look like.

Moon was shot with my OM-1 mounted (prime focus) to my ST80 (f/l 400mm) at 1/60 sec. exposure on 400ASA film. I also took some 1/30 sec. shots.

I tried some star trail shots with Polaris centered with my 28mm lens for 15 - 20min. exposures.

Now I have to find a shop that can develope astro film.

Thanks,

Blue Fringe????

Posted By Timothy Hornbeck

Take a look at the last couple images from 9/17. They all have the blue fringe or some hint of fringe around the north pole. Lei Jian, Yu Gu, and Vittal Badithe have it there images, all from around the 17th.

Anyone else capture this fringe?

First Truss Tube Scope ...

Posted By Timothy Hornbeck

I am tossing around the idea to build a truss tube scope in the 12.5" to 14.5" range (f/4.5 to f/6).

Just have a few questions.

How do you calculate the exact truss lengths, based on the f-ratio of the optics?

How do you know how heavy to make the upper cage to help with the balance?

Thanks,

Truss Size

Posted By Timothy Hornbeck

Would 1.25" aluminum tubing be good for a typical truss scope design? Would a larger diameter be needed?

Thanks,

Mounting cell ...

Posted By Timothy Hornbeck

Anyone have any ideas on how to mount a University Optics 12.5 (9 pt.) aluminum cell into a truss tube style mirror box? The UO cell only has 3 threaded mounting points. I would like to use it somehow.

Thanks,

Tim

Now would be a good time to post some information on how to shoot the eclipse tomorrow. Any hints or tips would be really appreciated by me and I hope others.

Thanks,

Meteor or Not!

Posted By Timothy Hornbeck

How do I know if I have an actual meteor? I found a chunk of pitted something, while installing landscaping. It is very heavy for it's size and a magnet will stick to it. The pitting is evenly spread across surface and it's kind of rusty too. I can take pictures and post, if it will help.

Thanks,

Tim
