Anhingan male

And a male to complet the set. I waited a long time and he never turned around, caught him fluffing his feathers at least. This bird was incredible though the scope, I especially liked the eyes.

Double breasted comorant

At least I think that's what it is. Taken very near the rookery with the anhingans.

Great blue heron feeding

A little gruesome. Pitty I chopped off the heron's feet.

Pinckney NWR rookery

Posted By James Robinson

This is not a close up of a single bird, hope it is not out of place on this forum. This is Ibis pond at Pinkcney NWR, between Hilton Head and the mainland off the main road. This is the most incredible birding spot I've ever visited. First it's a large rookery with herons (great & little blue), egrets, anhinga, night herons, possible others nesting. There are wood ducks and common moorehens all over the place. Also spotted a number of blue birds and a painted bunting. If you are ever in the area go there!

Snowy Egret 2

The last of my HH shots. Same rookery as the others (not Pickney, but in the middle of a condo complex!). Wish I had taken the scope on the Pickney outing. Next time.

Common gackle? with shaved head

Posted By James Robinson

A common gackle, or maybe a blackbird? He had what appeared to be a shaved spot on top of the head. I assume from a tussle with another bird.

Another red winged blackbird

Went back to my local wetlands this morning. This is the only shot that was in focus. Reminded my wife of Napolean with epilets on his uniform.

Song Sparrow?

Posted By James Robinson

A sparrow (Song, Savannah, some other type?) found in the local marsh here in NE Mass. This bird was really comical trying to stradle the reeds.
