influence of sky on deep sky imaging

I was very curious how the sky conditions really are influencing our deep sky exposures (in my case a D60 digicam).

Yesterday evening I did a series of D60 imaging with the same setup and target as during the winter holiday (was mag 5.5 sky), only difference is the mag 4.5 sky here at my observatory place with half mon up.
The brighter sky made it necessary to image with ISO100 instead of 200. Again 10x300 sec added in IP, image processing was similar, but not so much efforts on final cleaning and balancing of the image.

The result is very interesting, approx one mag deeper for the stars and much more details on the nebula, especially on the fainter areas for the mag 5.5 sky image.

Can anybody estimate the absolute deepness of the image regarding stars?

Maybe there have been done similar comparisons from some of you too.

Moon mosaics with webcam

I would like to share 3 images from March 16, Plato and 2 mosaics with the Philips ToU-webcam coupled to the 4" TMB refractor.
One is Aristarchus and surroundings, the colored volcanic area in the east, the second is the area south of Tycho with many not so well known craters.
The seeing was rather good and the amount of detail in such a mosaic I never reached with a digicam, probably due to the Registax processing.

Jupiter visits M44

Yesterday I had a nice view of Jupiter close to M44, the Beheeve
cluster.
I tried to image it and to manage the huge brightness difference.
Again a combo of the 4" f/6.2 refractor and the D60.

A nice little UGC galaxy is visible between Jupiter and the center of
the image.

widefield images with a digicam

In the mean time I could process my latest wide field images from this weekend.

I took M46 with M47, M35 with neighboring clusters and the Leo Galaxy trio with additional NGC3593, not seen often.

All of them with my 4" refractor and the 6MP Canon D60.

Jupiter animation Mar 28

This weekend I made my first Jupter animation of this season.
Conditions still were not perfect, but I had fun to to process what I got.

It was done with the Philips webcam and the C11 and consists of 20 combined images. Io is hiding behind and Ganymed moves across Jupiter, it shows up quite dark so I first thought of a shadow transit.

Virgo group and M101

With the same setup as before I used that transparent night for imaging the Virgo galaxy group and the difficult M101 with low surface brightness.

M51 with D60 and C11

After a long time with bad sky I could get M51 this week.
It took me quite a lot of processing to eliminate most of the noise, but at least the colors came out quite nice.

The first time I had no problems to guide at 1.5m FL for 10 min thanks to fixing my main mirror of the C11 with 2 screws and using the 4" TMB scope at f/15 for guiding.

M63 last night

Last night I had good conditions again and focused on M63 with my C11 and the Canon D60.
The raws were looking very dark, but the stacking of 20 images allowed quite agressive curves management, see details and image at:
