Scope Cover

Posted By Dave Schliepp

Need some help here. Does anyone know the name of those white scope covers, you see them quite ofen with the dobs. I'd like something like that for my scope, looks somewhat waterproof, yet breathable. I thought it was something like Scope Sock....but that's probably way off....Thanks!

Lunar Angle

Posted By Dave Schliepp

Ok, need to reach out to everyone here for an answer. I've been trying to find this one on the net, but have had zero success. The following is a question a local elementary school teacher had, can anyone shed any insight? Thanks!!!

"I have a science question about the moon. As I looked at the quarter moon last night, I noticed that it was laying horizontally and not vertically like always shown in books. Do you know why?
In science class we are charting the phases, I want to be able to explain. Any help would be appreciated."

GPS

Posted By Dave Schliepp

Anyknow if there was a GPS issue last night (3/21)? My scpe got no signal, so I went and grabbed a hand held GPS, which never has a problem picking up anything, and it didn't find a single satellite. I'm in Wisconsin......

More images or processing?

Posted By Dave Schliepp

I notice how many of your images have so much detail. I'm just curious if that is a result of stacking more images or if there is more processing involved after the fact? Here's a pic of Jupiter I took last night (3/21). It about 100 stacked imaged (registax 2) taken through a 14" Lx200. I appreciate your thoughts and suggestions!

Venus Transit Film

Posted By Dave Schliepp

Just curious what all your opinions are for what film to use for the transit. I'll be shooting through the baader filter material, both throudn an SCT with off axis filter, and with my SLR & 500mm lens. Right now I'm thinking of using 100 speed FujiFilm. Other throughts??

Any good shots of Mars?

Posted By Dave Schliepp

Check out our club site, I just posted some pics from a member out there. He took them simply by holding a video camera up to his EP.

Click photo gallery, then planets, you'll see the mars pics.

Meade illuminated reticle focus?

Posted By Dave Schliepp

That's a tough one, I have the same problem...two factors here:
If the stars are out of focus, the only way to try to focus it is to actually slide it out like you were doing, there's no other way.
If the crosshairs are out of focus you should notice that the top of the reticle turns to bring those into focus. I wouldn't expect a crisp focus though, you just hope to get it good enough to guide...
