Auotstar on G11

Posted By Harold Sarber

I haven't seen it done, but I just picked up a dual drive kit with Autostar and I'm going to try it on my G-11. I'll have to machine an adapter for it, but that sounds like the easy part to me. Not sure it's going to have enough torque to drive the G-11, but we'll see.

Let's try this again....

Hi Bill,

Send me an email at hfsarber 'youknowwhat' myeastern.com. I have some pieces left over from a previous project that you might be able to use.

Cobble an Autostar??

Posted By Harold Sarber

Hi Robert,

You can use a 497 with DS-motors in Alt/Az mode or Polar mode. I have only used them in Alt/Az mode so far. See http://homepage.myeastern.com/~hfs/ for details.

Your best bet is to join the Yahoo Roboscope newsgroup. Great bunch of people that will be able to answer all your questions.

What do you plan to use them on?

Thanks,
Harry

ETX90RA mod

Posted By Harold Sarber

Hi Don,

Here's my conversion:

http://homepage.myeastern.com/~hfs/Projects/ETX70/ETX70.html

As mentioned before, there are two versions of the ETX70. I had both at one time. The one I'm using has a wider opening between the forks. The 90mm Konus just fits (barely).

p.s. The mount and scope will be on Astromart soon (probably this weekend). Too many scopes. This one has to go. So if you're looking for a base (w/497 Autostar) let me know. I'll make you an offer you can't refuse .

14" Roboscope

Posted By Harold Sarber

Oh, I forgot to mention, because of the large gear reduction the thing is slower than molassis in winter, but the Goto is SCARY accurate. The second time I had it out I went through 19 Messier objects in 12 minutes. 8O

Hand Controlled Dual Axis for a Dob?

Posted By Harold Sarber

I've tried Mel Bartel's system, but it required a lot of tweaking and you also needed a laptop. I retrofitted a Meade DS mount onto my 14" truss. All the brains are in the Autostar controller. Total cost for parts was about $200. Here's a link to it:

http://homepage.ct.metrocast.net/~hfs/Projects/Robo14/robo14.htm

I bought some new 1.25" tubes a few weeks ago so that I can redo my 14" into a more lightweight scope. I'm also going to redo the GOTO setup. The altitude speed is fine, but the azymuth speed is excruciatingly slow. However, the GOTO's are extremely accurate!

I used DS motors, but motors from an LXD55 or LXD75 mount could also be used.
