Diagonals

Posted By Mike lanska

Hello Group - I'm in the market for a 2" diagonal for my SCT. Its not a matter of money,
but getting the best bang for my buck. Meade, has a 5000 series 2" diagonal with 99% reflectivity, and
dialectic coatings. I saw them new, on Ebay for around $139. Now Televue, has about the same
advertised type of diagonal - - 99% reflectivity with the dialectic coatings for $284, double Meade's price.
Has anyone ever done a comparison on these diagonals? Am I buying a "name" with Televue, or is it really
twice as good as the Meade? I would like your opinion, before purchasing.
Thanks
Mike L.

Meade LX 200 12 soft case

Posted By Mike lanska

Hi Greg
I also, have the Meade 12LX200/GPS. I bought a soft case
from Scopehead Bill in Vegas, that was a Meade reject for
$55 or $60. It was brand new. I put a thin piece of
3/8 ply on the inside of the case, and the foam went
over that. Now - - -with the 3/8 ply on the inside, I
bought some 2" caster wheels, and mounted them on the
outside of the case. I also bought a long luggage handle
that sits about 12", when its extended, to pull the case
from the inside of my house, to my pickup truck. Its like
pulling a piece of luggage around, now. Sure beats the
$500 they want from JMI. When I hit the lotto, might
consider one of them, but in the mean time, this works
GREAT!]

"custom set-up" let me know. [email protected]

AR6 damaged dealer refuses to give refund

Posted By Mike lanska

Your one of many "horror stories" I hear about Scope City..
Our club gets "Newbies" in all the time with stories that
you can't believe are true, but are. They get talked into
"Parks Lenses" at premium price, of course. $3000 scopes
sold to a first time beginner. And of course, they tell
the "Newbies" to join the local Astronomy club, and
"they will show you how to set it up" Boy - this really
burns me!
That's why I bought my Meade 12"GPS from Discovery Stores.
They offer a 60 day MONEY BACK guarantee, or a replacement
scope, if necessary. They are No 1, in my book.

lx90 handbox holder

Posted By Mike lanska

Hey Dave -
I ended up going through my local dealer, to get an
Autostar holder. It cost me $15. I called several
shops, and they said it wasn't available. My opinion is,
it wasn't worth their trouble, no profit in it for them.
You might want to call Meade's Tech support, and get a
ordering number, to give to your dealer. It will make
it easier for him to order it.

How long is the wait for Meade’s 99 ep offer

Posted By Mike lanska

Ricardo -
It took about 1 month, before I got my $99 lenses from
Meade. They were sitting on a boat, in Long Beach
during the last "boat strike", and couldn't get unloaded.

You might want to call Meades customer service, and ask
them what the "turn-around" time is.

Questions on Meade models

Posted By Mike lanska

Hi David -
I've owned both. The lx90, and the 12" lx200gps. I miss
my lx90, because it was easy to move around. I can pick
it up from my living room, and take it out back, tripod
and all. You can't do that with my 12"
You'd be happy with the LX90. You can find them occasionally on this website used, for $1200 to $1500. They
definitely are a reliable workhorse. Of course, the later
model, - - - -the better. You can upgrade the software in
the Autostar, if you find an older one, but if you can
afford a new one, get it. Everyone treats their scopes
differently, and thats the difference - - - between a
"good one" or - - a bad experience!

Best power supply for LX200 10"?

Posted By Mike lanska

Hey David -
I've got the 12", and use one of those "Sears Jumpstart"
batteries. They sell an 18 amp hr battery, for around
$69.95. I've used it (several times) up to 4 days, without
having to charge it again. Never had any problems, and, of
course, with any Sears item, you save your receipt, if you
did have any problems. You might want to scroll through
the www.cloudynights.com, and see if they have a battery
review. It all depends on - - how much you want to spend!
Good Luck

Meade 10"LX200 GPS vs meade 12"LX200 GPS

Posted By Mike lanska

Hey Freddy-
I've got the 12" and my buddy has the 10". We set up,
side by side. According to the Meade catalog, the 12"
draws more light. I really can't see a whole lot of
difference. We check out each others scopes all the time.
I had the LX90 prior to purchasing this 12". I CAN see
the difference between these two scopes. I need help
setting up this 72 lbs of scope on my tripod. He (my buddy
with the 10") is able to set his up along.
