vehicle for dob

Posted By John Tucker

Duane,

I was in your same situation. I recently upgraded to an 18" Obsession. It fits nicely into the back of my BMW 318ti hatchback. I haven't fashioned ramps yet, so it takes 2 people to lift the rocker box and mirror box int the hatch. It is not too heavy, just bulky.

LX200 10" or C9.25?

Posted By John Tucker

I used to have a very good 10" LX200 and have compared it many times to a c9.25. I felt they were different but overall about equal. My 10" would usually support a bit more magnification than the c9.25. The C9.25 had a much smoother focus it would snap in easily, I had to rack the focus in and out a couple times to get a good focus. The mechanics and goto on the meade were really nice, objects always in the eyepeice. I replaced it w/ an 18" Obsession. A C9.25 on a G8 (or maybe a C11 on a G11) mount would probably be the way I would go if money were no object.

Value of used equipment? Opinions please.

For what its worth, I recently sold a very nice 10" LX200 setup w/ hardcase, dew shield, scope saver table, counterweights, 2" diag + other stuff for $1500. It sold in 5 minutes, so I probably could have got more for it.

Looking for lowest profile 2" to 1.25" adapter

Posted By John Tucker

The 2-1.25 adapter that comes with the Paracorr is lower profile than the standard Televue unit. It can be ordered seperately.

meade lx200 vs. celestron cge

I also owned a 10" lx200. It was a great scope, altho the focuser was not real precise. the goto and tracking worked perfectly.

mid nineties LX200

A while back I sold a similar rig for $1500. My scope was pretty nice...I never once collimated it, and the goto and tracking was dead on. Overall I thought the optics were very good.
