I just pulled up the Scope City webpage and it clearly says on the first page they will give a full refund within 15 days for any mail order purchase as long as the scope is returned in original condition.

How do they get out of that?

I did the search request thing myself once. It actually kind of the reverse of tracking. Tracking an item is where it is scanned at each stop and recorded. With a search it only tells you where it isn't. It gets routed through the same path the package should (and should is the keyword here) have gone. If the item is damaged or missing vital info from it's label it gets stopped at a post office and hopefully the tracking will find it. The postal inspector though told me thousands of items go astray each week so don't hold my breath.

In all fairness though sometimes these are just amatuers hot for a certian item and thinning out their stuff quickly. Every so often I will list 4 or 5 things in a day that are all related in order to buy a new toy. of course those months I will also send a small payment to Astromart as well.

Those are typically surveying instruments and are made to very exacting standards mechanically even more so than optically. They are used for land layouts and engineering.

Carl Zeiss made a number of astronomical telescopes though as well. The most commonly seen is the 63mm x 840mm Telementor refractor. There were a number of other long focus 3" and 4" scopes and a few fluorite APO and a Cass too. They are found used occasionally and command a premium price. Noted mostly for quality of the opticalsurface finish and polish. Color correction is still limited because of their 2 element achro design but it seems the final figure makes secondary color of little significance.

If you don't need the Autorstar try the plain ETX-90 model. Many dealers were closing them out for less than $200 and you coulf likely still find one for that. used expect maybe $150 or so.
The drive is not that great but the optics in the 2 I have owned were very nice. 20x is not unreasonable with one of these. The OTA rmoves from the base so you could put it on a different mount if you wanted.
