Binoscopes vs Binoviewers

Posted By Malcolm Davis

Brian,

I will watch this thread with interest, as I am trying to decide whether to get a Denkmeier I binoviewer for my Orion 80mm Apo I will be getting in April, or go for a pair of Celestron 25x100 binoculars on a parallelogram binocular mount.

2" Diagonal Question for C8 OTA

Posted By Malcolm Davis

Tom,

I'm wondering the same thing with a C-9.25SGT. I really want to get that scope, but if it won't let me use 2" eyepieces, then its no good to me. Hence my confusion and consternation when my UK dealer told me it would not let me use a Televue 2" Everbrite Star Diagnol. The responses I am getting so far seem to indicate a 2" Visual back is the key to opening up the 2" eyepiece for use.

Orion XT-12 and Coma

Posted By Malcolm Davis

Many thanks for this input. Its useful information, and probably I will hold off on a coma corrector until I really do need one. They cost around £316 over in the UK, so its not a trifling amount.

A lot of the discussion went over my head technically. Is there a good book I can get which gives me an introduction to concepts like Coma, F Ratios, focal lengths, fields of view, etc. I've been observing for some years, but am only now looking at spending more on gear, and thus want to be as fully informed as possible.

Best EQ mount for PST?

Posted By Malcolm Davis

Charles,

Not an EQ mount I know, but the Televue Gibraltar is what I use. Very quick and simple to use for visual observation. If you want to grab images with a CCD or webcam, then an EQ such as a Vixen GP or Celestron CG-5 would work.

PST & C-80

Posted By Malcolm Davis

Charles,

I am looking at buying a PST, and was thinking of options for making it part of a complete, and portable solar observation system. My idea:

Mount the PST piggyback on a Meade ETX-125PE or EC, with the Meade equipped with a white-light solar filter. This would enable me to observe on both H2 Alpha, or white-light, on a driven GOTO mount, that is reasonably light and portable.

My question - can the PST piggyback on the ETX-125?

New Meade MAX Mount

New Meade Max Robotic Mount 8O Sure is pretty! Just wish it was more in my price range sad

I noticed it advertised here in the UK at the BC&F site. www.telescopehouse.co.uk/

Their info suggests it is designed for 16" and 20" RCX-400 scopes. Interesting that a 20" RCX is in the works - to compete with the 20" Celestron possibly?
