Current build quality of the LXD55

I have read many of the last couple of months posts and would
appreciate comments on the following questions.

Has there been any substantial design improvements by Meade to the
LXD55 since its release?

Does Meade seem to recognize the problems you all have been dealing
with and do they care?


I really do not mind tinkering, polishing and "fixing" bad
design/quality control if what I end up with is something that works
like it should have out of the box... I consider myself mechanically
competent and might even enjoy taking the mount apart and making it
work if... IF... I will end up with something that actually works
and is a good value for what I paid. Is that really what the LXD55
mount is or is it a hopelessly bad design?

I ordered a LXD55 8" SN with Autostar and read a lot of posting concerning its problems...now I am worried. I sincerely hope that most
owners aren't having this much trouble with their LXD's!!!

At least I have all this info to help me.

I've wanted this scope for two years and have finally ordered one.
But what have I gotten myself into??

Rechargeable batts with lxd-55

Hello, I recently bought 8 radio shack rechargeable batteries for my incoming lxd-55 telescope. But it says each one is 1.2v, and the total of the 8 batteries only goes up to 9.6 instead the 12v normal akaline batteries go up to. My question is: Is some one else using rechargeable batteries on their lxd-55 mount?, how does this affect the go-to performance?

What I was thinking on doing is putting the 8 cells in the
battery pack, and add outside the box 2 more rechargable batteries,
for a total amount of 12v. How can I do this?, how could I connect
the the extra batteries to the battery pack?, any ideas?

MY TELESCOPE IS FINALLY COMING HOME TONIGHT!!!!

My so long waited SN-8 telescope is finally coming tonight. It is flying from Miami and I live in El Salvador. The wait has been exactly 3 months. Most of the time calling MEADE from here, and struggling with them. I still have to fight for my MEADE 99 eyepieces, THEY LOST THE ORDER!!!, as they did with the telescope once. PLEASE PRAY FOR ME; SO MY TELESCOPE ARRIVES OK; AND THAT I AM ONE OF THE LUCKY GUYS TO GET A GOOD TELESCOPE. MY LIFESAVINGS HAVE BEEN INVESTED IN THIS.

Help!!!, bad corrector plate on lxd55-collimation

Hello, I recently got my LXD55 SN-8, and I noticed that the corrector plate was a bit misplaced. My question is how does this affect the view?. Also, is it a simple collimator enough to have a perfect collimation or do I need a laser one?

Home made dew cap ideas and advices needed

Hello, I want some ideas to make a dew cap for my Meade lxd-55 8’ SN telescope. Any ideas and advices out there on a home made dew cap?, What materials can I use?.
