I have a lot of old astrophoto negatives from back in the 70's and 80's, most B&W 35mm negs, some color slides. Are the current computer techniques for digital enhancements applicable to B&W negs? I have tried to scan a couple of these negs on the transparency adapter of my flatbed scanner with no luck at all. It works from slides albeit with limited resolution. I'm just curious if I could gain more details and pleasing results with the digital route using higher end equipments and techniques.

I'll ask the question here and on the Equipment List. Are there any plans out there for an autoguider that will work with a stepper motor drive, preferably with a guide scope rather than a ccd camera.

I just build a stepper motor controller and changed my GEM drive to a stepper motor. Now I would like to consider an autoguider to interface with it for wide field type astrophoto's.

New Scan,Old neg

Here is a new scan of and old neg shot in 77 with an 8" f/5 newt at Mt.Pinos. I've been getting some of my old stuff scanned on high end equip so I can play with them in Photoshop. I used to get great photoprints made on high contrast B&W paper but that stuff is long ago no longer available.

Meade MA Guiding/Astrometric Eyepiece

Anyone have experience with this eyepiece. I am interested in it as useful with double star observations as well as guiding purposes. However, one supplier listed the eye relief as 4mm, which it a bit tight in my book. Any users out there?

Software Choices

What software programs are best suited for astro photo manipulation? I have Adobe Photoshop 5.0 LE and have only learned how to change brightness/contrast/Hue/Saturation/color balance and limited unsharp masking.
