Ascom equipment help

Posted By David Doctor

Hi anyone,
Is there perhaps a usegroup for newbie Ascom related issues? I only see the 'Ascom-initiative group' which is clearly NOT for first-time user questions. I am having trouble installing an Ascom driver for a focusing device etc.
Thanks,
Dave

Atmospheric dispersion correctors

Posted By David Doctor

Anyone out there using these and if so, what specific product do you like and what are your experiences in general with them. Specifically,
1) Do they really help if you are also using dichroic filters?
2) Below what altitude of the object of interest do you find it necessary to use them
3) Do they change significantly FL of your set-up and/or are there certain barlows/ televues that they don't work well with
4) Are the corrections easy to make visually and/or does it depend on the specific product?

Thanks very much,
Dave

Luminance or no luminance

Posted By David Doctor

hi group,
question on when it helps to have luminance data. specifically, with my set-up, no binning yields an image scale of about 1.04 arc sec, 2x2 about twice that. i would imagine the seeing here in the northeast us is rarely good enough to go without binning in my case. so that is why typically when imaging i am binning 2x2. so the questions are:
1) if the seeing does not support 1x1, is it even worth your time to try to accumulate the 'high res' data.
2) should you take luminance at 2x2 and rgb at 3x3?
thanks for your time,
dave

Non-paying bidders

Is there a set protocol for this situation like there is on Ebay or any guidelines for what to do in this case? Or do we proceed according to our own judgment?
Thanks,
Dave

Mosaics question- solar HA

Posted By David Doctor

I'm using imerge- seems to work OK, actually with some HA solar images. Any tricks to getting a seamless mosaic? With no distinctive surface features on the HA sun these days, seems to be a little difficult to merge the images smoothly
Thanks,
Dave

Image sampling confusion

Posted By David Doctor

Hi group,
Is there a consensus regarding optimal image sampling for planets? I've seen generalities made such as: f/35-40 or whatever is best, but if I make the same calculation I do for deep sky ccd i.e. 205*pixel size/f.l., which for my 10 f/7 newt is around 5000+mm with a 3x barlow and 8000+mm with a 5x, my final arc sec/ pixel (using skynyx 2-0) is 0.2-0.3!! I seriously doubt I would EVER have seeing good enough for that here in the Northeast. Perhaps I should move? smile
Thanks,
Dave

Color cameras

Posted By David Doctor

Hi group,
I already have a skynyx 2-0 mono. I use it for the sun and saturn mainly, but would like to do color . Now I am a serious deep sky imager and I do that most of the time. It is just not practical for me in my situation..northeast US and other factors to do planet lrgb with a filter wheel. I have in the past combined my toucam images with the skynyx mono but i am looking to upgrade my color camera. The skynyx 2-0 does come in a color version, but it is just as pricey. I'm thinking of the DBK camera..Any thoughts?
Thanks,
Dave

Anyone out there Have a Sirius Observatory?

Posted By David Doctor

I just completed assembly of the School Model. The assembly was surprisingly simple. My dome is manually operated, but the mechanism is hydraulic. Very smooth. I think anyone who has this dome has to be very happy with the quality. You were smart to have the specs checked out ahead of time. The only problem I had was that the specs were stamped with the California state stamp and I could not get the town to approve the dome until I got a local engineer to certify the specs! I already had the dome parts, but had to wait a month until I could put it up. No matter, worse things could have happened. I think this is an excellent product, worth the additional expense.

I'm having a heck of a time with this format posting a new ad. Now my internet is awful, like 7 at best so I get that but I had no problem uploading images on another site. I have 12 images but the file sizes are small , averaging around 0.1MB. Once I enter the content and choose all the images, then click "continue" I get the "Please Wait" with the orange wheel going around and around for as long as 2 hours before I just have to give up. The other problem is that you cannot paste copy into the ad body so if I have to start over I have to retype the whole ad which is very frustrating. Not sure why you can't allow pasting from Word or other text editors!

Alright so I tried one 0.2MB file, just one, and yes I do see the orange progress bar advance so that's a change but it gets to about 90% of the way then stops and once again it's the orange wheel going round and round forever with nothing happening. So again, I was able to upload the same files to another site without difficulty despite my slow internet. Is it a browser problem? I am using Chrome with Windows 10. I checked settings. Don't see anything unusual there. Do I need to use IE or something else?
The other thing that would REALLY help while I am sorting this is any tip to stopping this endless loop without having to completely reload the page and start over with retyping the whole ad! (30 minutes of typing each time!!)
