Power Supply Ratings?

Posted By David Long

Hey Guys,

I have a Meade LX200 10" classic scope, and need a DC power supply. I read reviews somewhere on the web, but didn't earmark the webpage. Does anyone know where I saw it, or do you know the best power supply to power all the "goodies" (DewBuster, scope power, etc.).

Any help would be greatly appreciated. My wife wants to get me a good one for Christmas, if I can wait that long! Ha!

Thanks,
Dave

Best power supply for LX200 10"?

Posted By David Long

Hey Guys,

I really need some opinions on the best 12 volt power supply for my LX200 10" Classic. I saw a review/comparison site on the web, but now I can't remember where it is. Any advice, or help would be appreciated.

Many thanks,
Dave Long

Weights on top or bottom?

Posted By David Long

I have purchased a set of balance weights for my Meade 10" LX200. Do the weights go underneath, or on top? Probably underneath, but I don't want to make a mistake.

Thanks,
Dave

New GPS-Mate Question

Posted By David Long

Hey Guys,

I just got the GPS-Mate (from BC&F Astro Engineering) for Christmas. I tried it out last night for the first time. I have a Meade 10" LX200 Classic, and I hooked it up like the instructions said. I set the scope tube at 0 degrees, and let the scope go through initialization, and hit the start button on the GPS-Mate. I did it three times. I was looking for Saturn (knowing where it was in the sky), but the scope started going directly over head each time. The last time it wedged my new DenkII's to the base of the scope, and froze up. I had to disengage the drive to release it.

Granted, I'm new to astronomy, but I can follow basic directions. Anybody else tried this thing?

Thanks,
Dave

Best scope for $10,000

Posted By David Long

Hey guys,

I'm getting "aperture fever", really bad. I want to sell my Meade 10" LX200 Classic, and get something bigger. I keep it in my garage, as I have way too many trees around for an observatory. I will eventually mount my new scope to a trailer, and haul it to a remote spot in my area.

I also am using the Denk II Binoviewer, and want to continue using it.

In the mean time, I need your advice. What scope would you buy if you had roughly $10,000 to spend, and why. Remember, I have to be able to haul it on a permanant trailer. I prefer "goto" capabilities as well.

Thanks in advance,
Dave

LX-200 Collimation Issue

Posted By David Long

Hey guys,

I have a Meade LX-200 Classic, and I recently purchased replacement collimation twist knobs from BF&G (out of England). The problem is, now I can't get the darn thing re-collimated properly. I did as the directions said, concerning removing, and replacing one screw at a time. But, I am having a whale of a time getting it back into collimation.

Everytime a screw is moved it does change the centering of the circle, so all screws are attached to the mirror. So, that's not an issue.

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Guys,
Dave Long

Celestron Sky Scout! Yea, baby, Yea!

Posted By David Long

I just got this puppy about two weeks ago, and man I can tell you this thing is the perfect thing for beginners like me. I had my astronomy club president come over the other night to see it and he was mighty impressed! I highly recommend it to be at the top of your Christmas list. It's much easier than trying to figure out which star is what when you look for alignment stars.

Clear syies to you all,

Roof-Mounted Observatories available?

Posted By David Long

Hi Guys,

I have tons of trees around my 2-story house, and I want to have an observatory on the back-side of my roof. I don't plan to ever move (brother lives next door, sister across street). Are there any plans/pictures of what others have done that could show me what to give my contractor? Any advice suggestions would be especially appreciated.

If you have plans for doing this, please email me @ [email protected].

Many thanks, in advance!

Best Filters for Veiwing planets

Posted By David Long

Thanks Mike,

I am taking notes!
Result of Rule #1: Dave will stay away from filter "packages". You just saved me wasting money on Meade's "package".
You are the second person tonight to recommend the #21 filter. It's a winner!

Thanks!
