Simulated STL-11000M image

Posted By Mike Crews

I just placed my deposit to order one of the new SBIG STL-11000M CCD cameras. I plan to use it with a BORG 125ED f/4. Here's a simulated image showing the field of view and resolution I anticipate from this combination, made from DSS data (it's too big to upload here):

Of course, I do no expect to get quite as deep as the Palomar Schmidt, at least not the faintest stars, but I think this is a fair simulation of what the camera and scope will be capable of.

Taking a poll for a Mars Star Party......

I'm in. If I don't go to the FL Keys, then I'll be heading to Cabo San Lucas. Don't have to buy Mexican auto insurance to go to the keys, though. That's OK by me. smile

Diff between Nexstar 60 and Nexstar 60GT

Yep. There's a setup item to tell the hand controller which scope it's driving. They are all the same.

Great balls of fire!!

Posted By Mike Crews

I did! But not on that night, and not in Illinois! smile

This past weekend at the OCA Anza site in California, there were two bright fireballs, low in the sky like yours, and the 2nd one also trailed debris behind the main body. I didn't catch the first one, only heard the oohs and aahs from those around that did. The 2nd one was an intense teal green color.
