Orion SteadyPix Universal Camera Mount opinions??

Posted By Tom Koenigsfeld

orion product number: 05228. Hello all, Just wondering if anybody has used this product w/ a digital camera. If so how well does it work? I have the kodak cx4230 which has no threads on the lens so those other types of adapters wont work. Not looking to spend alot so i figured this product might be just what i was looking for. Any opinions? Thanks, T. J.

Possible comets this spring??

Posted By Tom Koenigsfeld

Hello,
With all the comet talk lately, I have heard of 2 comets that might make it to be naked eye targets. The last comet i seen like that was Hale bopp, but unfornately didnt have a telescope at the time and was just a naked eye observer. Comet t7 and i think there is a q4 that are being talked about for this spring. I live Iowa and not sure if any of these can be seen from here. Any chances?? Thanks for the help. Tom

Just wondering what weekend night people are planning for the messier marathon. I know usually there is a specific date people usually set that works w/ the moon and when all messier objects are visible. Thanks, T.J.

eyepiece holder question (turret?)

Posted By Tom Koenigsfeld

Hello,
Just wondering if anybody has heard of a device that holds several eyepieces to the telescope so you dont have to take one out and put one in. I have heard there is a filter turret kind of object that allows you to turn the wheel and look through different filters. Would be nice to have a holder that would hold several eyepieces and all you would need to do is turn the turret (or whatever they call it) to view through. Kind of hard to explain. ANy thoughts or suggestions? I have a meade lx 90 and would there be any other items I would need w/ a turret? T. J.

list of objects w/ filter comparisons?

Posted By Tom Koenigsfeld

hello,
Somewhere out there on the web is a nice article on different nebula, m objects, ect and differences w/ different filters such as broadband, o111, ultrablock, ect. It kind of tells you how each object looks using different filters such as m57, ect. Anybody do that or seen this article around. Just need help in trying to determine the amount filters actually help while observing. Thanks, T. J.

solar filter question

Posted By Tom Koenigsfeld

Hello all,
I have never seen the sun through a solar filter before. I see there are like 2 types of filters, glass and film. What do you guys use or prefer? I have a meade lx 90 (sct 8in) and see orion makes a nice looking glass filter. Oh, and what size is the sun when looking through the eyepiece. I know when im looking at the moon, i use a 32 mm or 26 mm super plossl and can fit the whole image in the field of view. Is the same w/ the sun? Do you ever see much detail? Sorry for the abundance of questions, but very curious before i throw more money into the astronomy "money pit". Thanks, Tom (T. J.)

Power supply for Kendrick Heater

Posted By Tom Koenigsfeld

Hello all,
Its been a while since I have posted anything here. Thought I would give it a shot. Heres my dilema.. I have a meade lx90 and use a 7amh jumpstarter (not very big). Works great just running my scope. Well, the other night i hooked up my kendrick dew heater to it also by way of a splitter dc outlet and worked great for a while. Then, i ran out of battery life real quick. Im looking for ways you guys do it. I was thinking of just using my 7amh to run the scope and have a separate power source for the heaters..any recommendations? I could have searched through past posts but w/ new products coming out all the time, i would like to get the most up to date info....Thanks

Observing Tent

Posted By Tom Koenigsfeld

Hello all! I have moved to a smaller city now and looking to "make" an observing tent (like the kendrick). I have searched the forums here and found a nice thread http://www.astromart.com/forums/viewpost.asp?forum_post_id=202404&poll_id=&news_id=&page= but it is an old thread and no pictures anymore. I dont care about quality and just want something to block the light out from me when im observing and something cheap. I cannot justify spending a lot of cash on a tent. here is another link i found-http://www.iolaks.com/softech/astro/observe.htm but I have a meade lx90 and not sure how it would work with this tent. Any advice, pictures of what you guys have made would be great! Thanks in advance everybody!
