Baffling of Mewlon & other Tak compounds

Can anyone with a Takahashi Mewlon, TSC, CN or other Takahashi cassegrainean derived design tell me about the inner tube baffling? Are there baffles along the inside of the tube like a refractor? I would love to take a look down one of those scopes' tubes one time. Another curiosity is the baffling of the AP Mak 10" and how they got away with a ~26% central obstruction and a 2" focuser, without letting in starlight to the focal plane.

Other than the great figure on the Tak optics, I am curious about what makes these scopes so good.

Stephen's Quintet whoop-de-do!

I fouund the Quintet the other night when looking for NGC 7331, and it was a little on the dim side. It looked like a patch of a few smudges and I thought it was an open cluster until I couldn't resolve any stars with more magnification. Then I knew what it was when I found 7331 a short ways away; someone's nice widefield photos of this region has shown these two near each other in the star field. The quintet sure looks better in CCD images! Maybe I should trade my 12" for a 20". I did get to see two of the companion galaxies to NGC 7331, however, and some dust lane details.

Anyone else found the Quintet lately? Would it be possible to sight it in a 6" refractor?

Know this feeling, thinking you have seen the Ring's central white dwarf star because you can see the fifteenth mag. double beside the ring? I swear I saw the central star but only when I was taking my eye off it! Man you can see lots of new stuff when you stop using an APO and get a big SCT!!!!!

Just give up your desire for widefield views ;-) (or keep the APO)

I just bought a Mazda RX-7. I have wanted one for years but never bought one because I didn't think I could work on one or pay the added gas expense. Well I recently took the plunge and decided to buy one to replace my Integra and all I can say is WOW. It is like a Japanese made Porsche! What a difference between it and a car not built for such an exclusive purpose.

Anyone else like sports cars?

Man it is cold at night this time of year in Oregon. Been really clear lately but I have not gotten my scope rig out for weeks. I mean mag. 6 skies from my doorstep and all I do is look up, then go inside where it is warm.

I was worried about cloudy skies when I still lived in Phoenix months ago, contemplating this move. What I really should have worried about was being so frozen that I wouldn't want to observe any more! I miss those seventy degree observing all-nighters at Vekol Rd.!!

So how do you all get yourselves outside to observe when it is really cold out (ie. <30deg. f.)

Go ahead and laugh at me, you Northeasterners!!!
