From a C9.25 to a . . .??

Posted By Jeff Green

Hello,

I am looking for opinions.
I have a c9.25, on a GM8/Astrosky Dominator. Great setup for my original intention of imaging, but I have decided to skip that for now.
What I'd like is a smaller, more portable, visual setup. Also, my skies seems to be worse than I thought (clouds, under the jetstream, etc). Can you help me with some pointers to a more appropriate setup?

-lighter and more portable, more consolidated.
-greater ability to cut through marginal seeing (refractor?)
-I'd like GoTo on this one
-I love planets, lunar, and DSO
-Something sharper and more contrast? Mak-Cass or refractor?
-Probably in the 1500 or less range. used is no problem, and I can sell some of what I have to reach the goal.

I guess in my head i was looking at something like the ETX-125? Maybe plopping that on my current pod?
Any help is appreciated, I don't know much about the current GoTo scopes.

All help is appreciated!
Jeff

HELP! What was I looking at?!

Posted By Jeff Green

Howdy,

I am fairly new to astronomy (1 year) and a rank newbie wheen it comes to identifying anything. I was using binoculars last night and saw a nice looking set of stars, but don't know what it is. It was in the ENE, maybe about 45 to 55 degrees up (around Perseus or Camelopardalis), I should have sketched it or taken notes. It fit in the bino view and was larger than the Pleiades, but I think way smaller than any constellation (how's that for scientific). Anyway I attattched a little sketch that was NOT what i did at the time, but a rough recollection.
The defining thing for me was that the stars looked like they were literally drawing a line, way more than typical asterisms. I mean there would be no real interpretation as to where the line was being drawn if that makes sense.

Any help is appreciated. BTW, I saw M31 for the first time, Pleiades, tried for M33 with no luck. I must've been having a blast since I was sitting outside in 35 degres with a tshirt and shorts for 45 minutes . .

Howdy,

Has anyone used this? I can't find any reviews on it. How about compared to the Taurus III?

Thanks!

Saturn 05 March 2005 - HELP with moon ID?

Posted By Jeff Green

Hello,

I am still very new to imaging, but starting to get a handle on it.
Anyway, I took some images of Saturn over the weekend. I was doing some basic processing and almost cloned out "that nasty spot" until I realized that it was MOVING in successive frames. I checked SkyView Cafe to see what moons were where and none were crossing the planet. So, either SVC is off or it is more likely a shadow of a moon . . the question is, which moon? All help is appreciated! My guess is either Enceladus or Dione.

Thanks!
