Big Eazy on Tak

Posted By Alan Zaza

I am thinking of getting a Denk Big Easy package for my Tak FS102 NSV since I already have a pair of 30mm Ultima's. I will probably need to use the OCS. Will I get any vignetting with this setup? I have a 2" TeleVue diagonal, but the Big Easy only has 1 1/4" openings. All comments appreciated.

Thanks
Alan

Orion Intelliscope Base

Posted By Alan Zaza

I am thinking of buying an XT10 Intelliscope. Is it possible to modify the base with "milkjug washers" like the classic? Will the encoder disk be in the way?

Thanks

13mm Nagler T6 Question

Posted By Alan Zaza

Thanks everyone. I called Tele Vue today and talked with a tech person. He said it's due to the scope and asked if I could see the darkening just looking through the eyepiece with no scope, and replied I could not. The effect is much less apparant on my XT-10, but still! I never thought vignetting would be a problem at 13mm. He also assured me that each eyepiece is completely tested, and if he thought something was wrong, he would have had me send it in for inspection. I will have to compare it with another one. This is a great eyepiece otherwise.

Thanks again
Alan

22 vs 24 Pan for XT-10

Posted By Alan Zaza

Hi Guys,
Thanks for the comments. I'm trying to get by without a Parracor. I don't expect pinpoints at the field stop, but maybe slightly better performance than I'm getting with the 22mm Pan. I just ordered a 24 Pan from Anacortes- I'll report back!

22 vs 24 Pan for XT-10

Posted By Alan Zaza

I am very happy to report that the off axis performance of the 24mm Pan is much better than the 22mm. It seems like a different eyepiece altogether. I start to see coma at about 90-95% out from the center. This is a vast improvement, and don't feel the need for a Paracorr at all. I can definitely live with this view. Also, the apparent field seems to be much wider than 68 degrees; more like 70-75 degrees. I have to look "around the corner"- just like a Nagler to take in the whole field. It gives me the "spacewalk" effect I didn't get before too. I highly recommend the 24mm Panoptic for F4.7 scopes.

Thanks All
Alan

Lightbridge

Jim,

Do you recall if the altitude bearing pads are felt, or teflon? I'll be getting the 12" std as soon as it's safe.

Thanks

Lightbridge optics?

Posted By Alan Zaza

I have gone through a lot of scopes, and can tell you my 12" Lightbridge std. has some of the best optics I've looked through. Not only is the star test just about textbook, the view of Jupiter last Saturday night floored me; festoons, ovals, etc. I regard it better than my XT-10 I had; image seems smoother with better star test and no astigmatism. I am Happy! I use Tele Vue Naglers and Panoptics.

New website for astronomers under 40

I'm turning 53 tomorrow, but I loved Star Wars when it first came out, and still do. You are only as old as you feel. As far as retirement planning, the earlier you plan, the better off you'll be.

Get the picture John?

WHY FILM?

Posted By Alan Zaza

I think you still can't beat film for long exposures of the sky without noise. Star trails, auroras, noctilucent clouds etc. can be done without having to stack images. And it's simple. You don't need a computer or software to get great images. 8)
