Newbie Seeking Advise Please

Posted By Gerald Dunn

Mike,

Repeat after me, "I will not spend one penny until I go to a star party."

These folks have been bitten by the Astro-Mart spending bug. That's why you're seeing all these dollar signs flying around these posts.

Someone can only state their preference for a type of scope they like. Until you look through a wide variety of telescopes you will not know what your preference is, and that may change with every view you soak up. So one more time; "I will not spend one penny until I go to a star party."

TV click-stop zomm eyepieces 8mm-24mm

Posted By Gerald Dunn

I have used the Click stop TV 8mm-24mm with Binos. Not the TV binos but the BW optics and I was very disappointed with them. The reason was some pretty bad ghosting, and I thought perhaps it was the binos. So I used one of the eyepieces with just the diagonal and there was still ghosting on bright objects. I sold them both and would not recommend you buying them. They were one of the must disappointing astro purchases I have ever made.

What is the Astromart community coming to??

Posted By Gerald Dunn

What is this community coming to? People posting AP refractors for more than the retail price. I'm sure that no one thinks they are turning a profit. Just to understand. Profit=dealer? Selling at 75% of price=back yard astronomer? Because if you adjust the 1960 dollar to the 2003 dollar I have a feeling that Mark is selling the scope at 75% of the retail value. Making him a backyard astronomer. However, if the idea of him taking the chance to make a profit from the scope makes him a dealer then what do you call all the folks selling the AP's making a profit?

Can a GM8 support a C11? & other questions

Posted By Gerald Dunn

Don - No way can the GM-8 mount the C-11, been there tried that. The 9.25 is pretty much the limit when mounting a SCT.

does the original box add value to an item?

Posted By Gerald Dunn

When listing an item having the orignal box clearly plays into the list price. For example I just sold a 27 mm panoptic for $210 had I had the box I would have listed it for $240. Would the box make it any better of an eyepiece? No, but people put stock into the origianl packaging. If you don't believe me, say in an ad that you are including the box and it didn't show up that way. The eyepiece would be coming back so fast my head would spin.

Thanks,

Gerald

I think I got scammed

This ad doesn't seem to pass the sniff test. The wording at the end of the listing is really odd " I'll absorb the PayPal fees and we can split the shipping. I know just how close the eclipse is and I will ship this absolutely ASAP so you have time to receive and get used to it." The eclipse was a month and half ago and the fact of a 1800 blocking filter, feathertouch focuser and pressure tuned 60mm seems to good to be true.

Also the name galactic savvy listed the 20th of May after joining the 19th of May just seems, again, really odd. Might be legit but the ad just doesn't add up.
