What am I missing?

Posted By Bob Parr

Besides the darn galaxy? Okay I have a new LX10 8 inch. I have played around for a few nights getting the feel of this scope and tonight went for my first galaxy. I was able to find the location by star hopping and using Halo Northern sky and the tyc stars. I am about 99% sure I was in the right place. verified by several star patterns. There are three stars right by M66. one looks by halo to actually be in M66. these three stars are all 11 mag stars. they were dim, but I could see them. But M66 at mag 8.6 I could not see at all. I tried averted vision, I tried nudging the scope, nothing. I do live in very light skys (right by DFW airport, between Dallas, Fort Worth, Arlington and Irving) But like I said, I could see 11 mag stars. Oh and a 40mm EP. Any help would be greatly appriciated.

I am finally, after almost a year with my new 8 inch, getting out to some dark skies. If the weather will cooperate, which it doesnt' look like it will, can you guys recomend some good galaxies and nebulas for me to look for? This is why I got my 8 inch. I will be in east Texas. thanks for your help.

what is it worth

Posted By Bob Parr

I am thinking about selling my telescope and stuff. I don't want to but so rarely get to use it. I have been off this site for a while and want to see what it would be worth. I am really not interested in parting it out, but here is what I have: Meade LX90 with UHTC coatings. the tripod is not meade but pretty sturdy, a meade mount with clock drive and a motor for the RA. I have that meade eyepiece kit that they sold a few years ago with the hard case. I think it is 6 3000 series eyepieces, I have a UHC filter, an off axis guider a cordless illuminated reticule ep. A foam padded carry trunck for the scope. and a couple other this and thats. I know this is a pretty rough description but does it give an idea of value?
