Observed easily Friday night about 11pm. Was visible in my 50mm finderscope! A binocular object certainly. Large and bright in my 10" f5 dob using a 15mm ep. Diffuse fan shape tail but subtle, only apparent when moving scope slightly.

Did anyone hear about a Southern Aurora Yesterday?Posted By Joe Dickson |
I viewed the bright trail of a fireball while observing Mercury early this morning. About 0530 PST. I missed the meteor itself but it lit up the entire sky behind me!! Never seen anything like it, the entire sky brightened. I then saw a trail with red sparkles which grew dim and a smoke trail that dissipated after about 30 sec. I'm in Southern Ca, it was roughly alt 45 az 270 heading west. It was like a flair had been shot into the sky, I noticed a sudden brightening and turned, saw the trail then viewed the smoke trail with my 15x70 binos for half a minute or so.

I'm very interested in your construction notes. I tried a similar setup also inspired by Eugene Artemyeff's Comet Couch. (Thanks Eugene!) While I really enjoyed being able to sweep around without getting up and moving things, just breathing made the platform wobble enough to be visible in the binos. My parallelogram will also need to be beefed up or replaced to handle 100mm binos most likely.

Did this on my dob starting out. Thought it was pretty good until I broke down and got teflon and Ebony Star. No comparison after that. MUCH smoother. The lp gets gummed up after awhile. Did on mine. It will work until you break down and send away for some Ebony Star. I believe some Magic Sliders do have some teflon so that may not be as big a difference. I got Ebony Star here after placing a wanted ad. Quick, easy, good price.

Tried it once on my Hardin 6" on the azimuth surface. Huge mistake. Soapy water worked on the melamine ok. It got better.
