Can your Orion 80mm ED reach focus using this?

Hi guys,

I have a WO 2" SCT diagonal and I used it together with a 2" SCT adaptor on the Orion 80mm ED scope. I realised that it can't reach focus. The drawtube has been fully retracted, yet it still could not reach focus. This is with the Pentax 21mm XL.

Is it just me or this a normal problem?

Difference within the Pentax XL eyepieces?

Hi guys,

I have two Pentax XLs, one is the 21mm and the other is a 14mm. I noticed that both are different in some ways. The 21mm has a purplish coating, but the 14mm has a greenish coating. Also, the 21mm body can be rotated freely, much very like turning in a well-fitted screw at the initial stages. The 14mm body body has a tighter feel when turning.

Is this normal?

Who makes high quality newtonians?

Hi guys,

I am considering of getting a 8" f/5 newtonian scope to be mounted on my LXD55 mount, but I couldn't find anything besides the Syntha clones. I want one with an excellent mirror and good mechanics. Is there any manufacturer that does this?

Changing mirrors.....need help

Hi guys...

I intend to purchase a Chinese 8" f/5 scope and have the mirror replaced with a premium mirror (most probably a Royce). Now before I rush out to order the new Royce mirror, is there anything I should do to make sure that when I drop that new Royce mirror in, I don't need to modify the location of the focuser, spider, etc, etc?

In other words, I wouldn't want to modify anything but would like the scope to work fine when the new mirror is in.

What should I check or instruct Mr. Royce so that everything would fit exactly like the way it should when the Chinese mirror was in?

Premium 8" reflector or Celestron 9.25" XLT?

Hi guys,

Assuming both is about the same price, which one would be a better choice?

The Premium reflector would have a superb mirror (say a Royce) but it's one inch lesser than the 9.25". If you were me, which one would you go for?

I hope this is the right forum to seek help. I have a 8" f/5 mirror and I need someone to help me refigure the mirror to at least 1/9-1/10 wave.

Celestron Nexstar GPS or Meade LX200 GPS?

Hi guys...

I don't intend to start a GPS SCT war here, but what are the advantages that one had over the other? I placed more priority in setting up, GOTO accuracy and simplicity of use. I understand that Meade has a lot of bells and whistles but did Celestron lose out by a lot?

Any comments?

Self align eq mount?

Hi guys,

With meade having this true north and leveling technology, when will be the day we can have a self align eq mount?

Not just a GOTO eq mount (LXD55,75, etc), but one which can align to the North celestial pole with reasonable accuracy for astrophotography. I am at the equator and I can't see Polaris. So it's all guessing and compass work to align the eq mount at the start. I believe those in the southern hemisphere are not having easy life with eq mount either.

Arrghh...when is the day we can have that?

I have not found any review on Russell 2" eyepieces, so how do you think of his budget eyepieces? I am thinking of the 15mm 2" Konig and the 40mm 2" Plossl.

Thinking of going into 2" but not enough $$. Any comments will be much appreciated.
