Return of AstroPoodle: Nightsky 16"

Posted By Rob Mackie

Milo likes to alternate between his TMB 4" F/8 (see posting below) and the heavy artillery, a Nightsky 16" F/4.5 truss dob with Pegasus optics(currently for sale on Astromart). Alas, Milo's size (he weights 10 pounds and is 11" tall at the shoulder)makes it difficult for him to use the dob at anything more than 5 degrees above the horizon.

AstroPoodle Looks Over Two Very Nice Truss Dobs

Posted By Rob Mackie

Milo the AstroPoodle is seen here with a 16" Nightsky reflector w/Pegasus optics and...to the left of photo...a Starmaster 14.5 w/Zambuto mirror, goto/tracking. Milo is quite attached to the Nightsky 16" and, being a traditionalist, regards goto/tracking with suspicion. He'd prefer to star hop, though his size prevents him from using his 16" for anything more than a few degrees above the horizon.

Milo's Mak Newt MN61

Posted By Rob Mackie

This is the Orion version of the Intes MN61 6" F/6 Mak Newt. It's sitting atop a Losmandy GM-8. Thus far I've been most impressed by its performance. I have to fight Milo for time at the eyepiece.

Collimating Mk67 MCT: Adjust Secondary or Primary?

Posted By Rob Mackie

I am new to Maks but have a lot of experience collimating fast newtonians and SCT's. I note that the Intes Mk67 (same as Orion Argonaut MCT)permits adjustment of the primary as well as the secondary. When should I adjust the primary? I am accumstomed to tweeking the secondary on compound designs until the out-of-focus star image is concentric on either side of focus.

Should I refrain from adjusting the primary and adjust only the secondary? When will I know that the primary needs adjustment?

I've researched the collimation narratives on the web. The one at geekjoy is written in a highly confusing manner, and as a consequence is not very useful. I'd be most grateful if one of the more experienced Mak users on this board could set me straight in a clear, unambiguous manner.

Thank You,
Rob Mackie

Milo and his TEC 6 MCT

Posted By Rob Mackie

Finally, Milo has found an ota no bigger than he is. I've caught him several times humping the TEC 6. Bad Dog!!!

Tec 6 and TV85 on Giro Alt-Az

Posted By Rob Mackie

These two scopes compliment each other. With a 600mm focal length, the TV85 delivers the contrasty, wide field views I like so much, while the Tec 6 mak, 1800mm F/L and almost twice the aperture, provides more detail on deep sky and planetary objects. Both scopes are quite compact, and having both of them on the Giro is a great way to share views.

TEC 6 ,Tak Mewlon 210 and Poodle

Posted By Rob Mackie

Here you see Milo, my miniature poodle, getting ready for a session with his two favorite compound designs, the Tec 6 Maksutov, 152mm, and the Tak Mewlon 210. Milo was curious about the relative strengths and weaknesses of these two designs, and will eventually post his conclusions.

TEC 140 and Zeiss/Baader Binoviewer Question

Posted By Rob Mackie

Will the Zeiss/Baader bv work with the Tec 140 using the dedicated Zeiss/Baader diagonal? I'm assuming use of the standard package and its 1.25x corrector. If this is not a workable combination, what does it take to make the Zeiss/Baader unit work with the Tec 140? One of the higher power correctors, perhaps? I'd be interested in feedback from anyone using a Tec 140 and a Zeiss/Baader binoviewer.

Two Poodles

Posted By Rob Mackie

The rust colored miniature poodle is Milo (aka Astropoodle), aged 7, and the white poodle (4 months old) is a male toy poodle named Milo II. Great dogs, very intelligent and full of personality.

Disclaimer: The ribbon in Milo's hair was NOT my idea.

TMB 105 CNC and Tak Mewlon 210

Posted By Rob Mackie

The poodle had a social engagement and was unavailable when I snapped this photo. The ota's are mounted atop on a Giro 2-head alt az mount. The 650mm F/L TMB apo is complimented nicely by the 2415mm F/L Tak Mewlon 210, a Dall Kirkham design.
