Repost: Coarse image from MX516 using MaxImDL

Hi All,
Looking for some help from the Users of MX5/516 and MaxImDL. Sometime ago, I was using Pix_M5
as primary software for acquiring images from MX516 (parallel, Faster) camera and all looked good. I downloaded demo version of MaxImDL 4.0 and started seeing something strange. Any long exposure longer that 1sec gives me a very rough, coarse image. If I take a dark frame I discover more noise than what I used to get while using Pix_M5.
Any idea, please.

Cost to built SkyShed Type Shed

Question to the SkyShed (plan) users. Except Pier & foundation, how much will it cost to built a 8 X 10 ft shed based on the available plans? Any rough baseline estimate will be very helpful.

Live WebCam Frame stacking

Have a question about WebCam Astrophotography. Is there any software available that can stack multiple frames and present it as a single frame LIVE? I am trying to look for something similar to video astrocams that does the same internally and then presents to the receiver.
Normally we can get 5-30 frames / sec. Convert 5 frames to 1 frame (Add/Average/custom logic) and show on the screen.
Also, if such applications are not available will there any demand for the same? Just Curious!

Help for Steel Pier

Hi All,
I am trying to plunge in first step in Observatory design.
Found a source to get 8in OD pipe or, a 8in square tube. The pipe wall is 1/8in where as the square tube wall is 1/4in. Cost of square tube is about 40% more than the pipe.
Please suggest if 8in pipe will be sufficient strenght to be a pier of 4ft length.

Older Digital Camers (Consumer)

Hello All,
Recently I have noticed that the price of certain quality older Digital Cameras are quite comparable to Quality Web cams(even lower). Also, some of them can open shutter up-to 15-30 sec with CCD sizes 1/1.8in!
Any one have have used these connected to PC as Webcam or, for controlling & connecting live images.

Comparing MxImDL vs Star_Mx5 Image Capture

Hi all,
May be this has already been discussed before.
I had a chance to take some sample images using Starlight Xpress Mx516 camera using both MxImDL 4 (demo) and the usual Star_Mx5 old world executable. To my surprise the time of image download by Star_mx5.exe is little but noticeably faster and the image look to have a better contrast! After trying to compare both on MxImDL the Histogram / screen stretch window the curb looks similar but not exactly the same; may be because of extra fraction if image download time! Also in the same experiment noticed the higher contrast of the image taken by Star_Mx5.

Is there any special settings that needs to be made in order to achieve the same result from MxImDL?

Travel Scope to India

Within a month I will be visiting my folks in India. The sky is expected to be clear till monsoon (June). Looking for a scope that will be easy on Airline; interesting to my Parents and kids of all ages also not so hard on budget. Well I know it’s a lot to ask for.

Collimation Knob for C8N Newtonian

Looking for Collimation Knob for C8N Newtonian. The phillips screws are not that easy in near dark conditions, so looking for a better solution. A screw with a big head like a knob will be fine.
Any idea where can one find it.
