Estate DispositionPosted By Terry Randall |

I'm 61 years old and recently married as of 3 years ago. I'm in excellent health. My wife and I are redoing our will and in the process I got to wondering about the final disposition of some 40K worth of astronomy equipment. My wife or any of my kids would find absolutely no use for any of it, nor have a clue on how to dispose of it in the event of my demise. My intent of course is to liquidate it for cash to the estate. To do this, I would have to have resonable warning of my demise in order to execute in a timely manner. Of course, if my demise is the result of a chronic illness I would have time to execute. If my demise is the result of an accident, then there would be no time.
So my question is, will my astromart account fall to my wife by right of survivorship? Or, will she need her own Astromart account? I've introduced her to Astromart and told her it would be the most efficient way to dispose of my equipment should something unforseen occur.
Any opinions on this?
Thanks for bringing up this subject...it is a good one.
FWIW..remember that equipment does depreciate and many times is not what the owner thinks it is worth. Prices asked for equipment on sites like Astromart many times are not the prices that the sellers actually get. Realistically pricing assets is definitely an art..not a science.
