Question Regarding MaximDSLR

Posted By Kerry Green

Are there any published setting recommendations regarding RGB conversions that are camera specific. I am using a Canon 30D and and after tweaking and getting the image how I like it in Photoshop, i run Test Strip Proofer and the magenta image always looks the best. The original always looks green. I was curious if anyone has experience and could point me in the right direction.

See attached example

Thanks for the help!

A Quick Flame Horsehead

Posted By Kerry Green

Shot this last night. Poor polar alignment and high winds prevented me from gathering much data. It turned out better than I thought, though. I shot this through my new toy, a WO ZS 80ED. I think I'm really going to love this scope for imaging.

Taken with a mix of 60sec and 90sec subs, about 15min worth of data. I hope conditions improve soon so i can take longer exposures.

Thanks for looking.

M42 processing question

Posted By Kerry Green

Here is an image of M42 i have been working on. I processed in IRIS and for some reason there is a diagonal cut off line where it seems any brighter data has been clipped. Any ideas? I think this would look pretty good without that line.

Curiosity about HST

Posted By Kerry Green

I was wondering if anyone has attempted or been successful in capturing an image of the Hubble Space Telescope from the ground. There have been many great picturs of the ISS, and, I know it is substially bigger, I have seen many good pictures of the space shuttle, too. The HST is only slightly smalller. Anyone know?

Standalone Autoguider

Posted By Kerry Green

Hi all,

I'm looking for a standalone autoguiding system much like the SBIG ST-4. I cant seem to locate anything like that. I am willing to build the darn thing if i have to. I may just try that anyway. Anyone have thoughts?

Thanks,

Rain Rain Go Away

Posted By Kerry Green

I feel like it's been raining for six months straight. I haven't been able to get out and photograph the sky for quite some time. I have been using the time to improve my processing skills. Here is a reprocessed M42.

Its about 12 minutes of data in 30s subs with the 30D through a WO 80 ED-II mounted on a GM-8. The noise is a little bothersome, but i guess there really isn't a lot of data there. Stacked with Deepsky Stacker and processed in Photoshop CS3.

Thanks for looking!

Gradient issue Rho Ophiuchus

I thought I'd try my hand at the rho ophiuchus complex last night. this is a stack of 20 with 3 minute subs. I'm really fighting gradient removal right now. Anyone have tips on what I can do for that?

Nikon D90

Posted By Kerry Green

Nikon's soon to be released D90 is going to have a video mode. It will record at 1280x720p at 24fps. Does this seem like decent planetary pictures will be possible with this DSLR? What are your thoughts?

The Pleiades

Posted By Kerry Green

Acquired on 9-30-2008. Canon 30d and WO 80ED II, 15x180sec exposures. Iris and photoshop. This was really noisy and the tracking wasn't very good, hence the elongated stars. It is much better than my last attempt though which showned almost zero nebulosity. I might look for some data to add to it tonight.
