Televue 85 vs Zeiss Diascope 85

Posted By Robert Klipstein

Please forgive my stupidity but I am new to birding. I have a Televue 85 that I have been trying to use for terrestrial as well as a little astronomy. It seems like it would be a real hassle to take the Televue out into the field to do bird watching. I was thinking of trying to trade for a Zeiss Diascope 85 which seems like a more portable scope. Like I said, I am new, and would appreciate any suggestions.

Thanks,
Bob

Televue 85 vs Televue 76

Posted By Robert Klipstein

I have a Televue 85 that I got to try to balance viewing between terrestrial and some astronomy(moon and planets). Though it is spectacular on the moon and planets, it is somewhat of a handful to use terrestrially. Would I be better trading it for a Televue 76? Thanks in advance for your advice.

Deluxe MK66 vs Televue 85-Help!

I have an opportunity to trade my TV85 for an Intes MK66 deluxe with Sital mirror. I do mainly lunar and planetary with some terrestrial viewing. Should I do it?

Thanks for any input.

MK66 vs 12.5" F6 Cave dob

Posted By Robert Klipstein

OK guys,

Make the choice for me. I have an opportunity to trade my TV 85 for either an Intes MK66 Deluxe with cash or even for a 1960's 12.5" F6 Cave dob with a newly recoated mirror. What do I do? I am looking for something to cover both planets, some DSO's, and sometimes lunar. Thanks for any input.

80mm Apo for $429???

Posted By Robert Klipstein

Are these guys smoking some funny weed, or is the ad in my new Orion catalogue true? An "Orion 80mm ED Apochromatic Refractor" for $429. Televue, Tak, and Stellarvue must be shaking in their boots; not to mention AP and TEC. How can they compete with a "true" apo at this price? But Wait!!! I seem to remember having an 80mm Orion Ultrascan ED and an 80mm Apogee ED "semi-apos" only to find out that neither one really had ED glass in them and they both had tremendous chromatic aberration above about 75X. Has anyone had any experience with this scope from Orion?

Televue 85 vs Intes MK66

Posted By Robert Klipstein

Well, here I go again. Trying to make a choice. I have decided that my total viewing will be lunar, some planetary(Jupiter and Saturn) and M42, M43, and M57. If some other DSO goes across my view, I will probably look at it too, but I probably won't seek out the others. So, decide for me guys. Yes, I know I sound like a broken record, but please help this poor fickle astronomer!!! I am sure when you get to Heaven, you will be given an 8" Takahashi fluorite refractor to do your viewing.

Thanks,
Bob

Collimating an Intes MK-66

What is the easiest way to collimate a Mak like this one? Are there collimators available for these types of scopes?

APM 102mm Triplet Achro vs Orion 80mm ED Apo

I would like to see a comparison between these two scopes. If anyone is lucky enough to have access to these scopes, please share your findings.

Thanks,
Bob
