Hey guys

Here is the first result from last night imaging session in Raleigh. It was a windy night but I was able to pull enough good frames out of the vid. More (hopefully better) results to come.

Orion 130mm reflector
EQ-2 mount w/AstroTrack drive
Logitec 3000 through 2.5 barlow
400 frames stacked in registax3

***EDIT***
***I did not realize it was so dark...it looked good on my laptop***

Question of Aperture

Posted By Jeff Green

hey guys,

I just have a question of what is limiting my photos. I assume that alot of you guys are shooting with thousands of dollers of equipment and I am working with a few hundred dollers worth and that my be my issue. But I just wanted to check considering all the experience you all have in the field of astrophotography.

Here is my setup:
130mm Orion Spaceprobe on and EQ-2 mount W/astrotrack drive
Logitech 3000 webcam (not modified for long exposure)
Location: Raleigh, NC

I will attach some photos from Friday when conditions(from Raleigh Clear sky clock) were CC-10,T-5,S-4. Which is about as good as we get here.

My shots are not as clear as the ones you all post and I wanted to know what is limiting my shots. Is it apertrue, seeing, my technique, etc. Should I be expecing less due to my setup?

any info would be helpful.

thanks guys

Currently using a Orion Spaceprobe130mm

Posted By Jeff Green

Guys,

You all have probably seen some of my photos posted out here in the forums. And I have gotten to a point that I am thinking of upgrading my 130mm to a more capable scope. But I am limited by portability.(live on a third floor apartment facing west)So, I need something that is easily moved Also I prefer the EQ mounted scopes so I am not really looking for a dob.

Now I like my setup, it is decent visually but my photos are just not as sharp or clear as I want. So I wanted to glean knowledge from the great experience I have seen posted in these forums. Such as, am I at a limit on my scope and if so where to go from here.

I was thinking of going with the Skyview Pro 6in LT (F/8 1200mm)on the CG-5 mount. But I am not really sure if it will give me that much of an increase in the quality of my shots. I was wondering if anyone had any experience with this setup for Astrophotography.

I know I will not get Deepsky shots from this setup.(as I am using an unmodified logitec 3000 webcam anyway so that is not really an option )So right now I am just shooting Planetary and Lunar.

But any info on this 6" setup, possible sample photos or recommendations for other setups would be greatly appreciated.

thanks in advance

Jeff

Upgrading to a CG-5 mount

Posted By Jeff Green

I am looking to upgrade to a CG-5 type mount. I was either going to go with the SkyView mount through ORION or with the CG5 Celestron. Now I have found a few other CG-5 mounts out there. There is one made by a Chinese Company under the name Baytronix. Does anyone have any experience with this mount. Or any recommendations which way to go.

Thanks for the info
Jeff
