Terrorist threat overestimated?

Inside the continental USA there are literally millions of easy targets for terrorist bombers - shopping malls, schools, churches, sporting events, and on and on. Anyone, and I mean anyone, who is physically (not necessarily legally) in the country can blow themselves up along with potentially hundreds or even thousands of innocent people just about anywhere in the country.. They can go just about anywhere, enter theatres, trains, ferries, children's birthday parties, the Macy's Thanksgiving Parade and anyplace else you can imagine without a pat down or being profiled in any way.

If the above paragraph is true, and I think it is absolutely so, and if there is an unacceptable level of terrorist threat in the USA then WHY IN THE BLUE BLAZES HAVEN'T THERE BEEN ANY SUICIDE BOMB ATTACKS ON AMERICAN SOIL SINCE 9/11? What are the folks some of us would like to profile right out of the country doing? They are certainly not suicide bombing.

And even more galling, why do we have to put up with the weapons-grade daily stupid that is the TSA? With so many easy targets why would any potential terrorist try to get on a plane from within the USA?

Terrorist threat exaggerated? Hmmmmmmm.

Such an important moment for the middle east and the rest of the world. How will this affect other arab oligarchies? What about Israel? What role might the USA play? Who are the players to replace him? Will an Islamic theocracy be able to slip into power?

I, for one, will be monitoring this closely via the BBC, CBC, NPR, Al Jazeera and other online and shortwave news sources.

Public School Funding - Unequal and Unfair? Why?

I brought this topic up in another thread but I got no response so I'd like to highlight it a bit here.

It is well known that Public school funding in the USA is highly dependent on the income level (and the resulting home values and the property taxes) at the county/district level. Inner city schools are not funded nearly as well as schools in well-to-do suburbs - this affects facilities, equipment like modern computers, textbook budgets, teacher salaries and so on. Poor rural school districts also suffer from this problem.

I fail to understand why this is tolerated. Why do the children of poorer families not deserve the exact same quality of facility, faculty and equipment as the children of middle and upper-class families?

There is a simple solution to the problem. Take the education portion of the property taxes and direct it to a central 'depository' in each state where the money is doled back out according to the enrolment of each school, not its location. Proper legislation can ensure that the money is fairly distributed. Each of the 50 states has some sort of educational administration department already in existence to administer the funding.

That's how we do it in Ontario and the rest of Canada. Too 'socialist' for you?
