M42- Trapezium

Hello.

The Trapezium taken with a 12" f/11 Newtonian, ST-237A ccd camera. Losmandy Titan mount.
Exposure time- a total of 850 sec unguided.
Moderate seeing (5/10).

Filter weird - ice crystals "new coating"

Hello,

I have Schuller 1.25" photometry filters.
I left them at their original plastic cups for 4 months in a drawer.
When I opened and look at the filters- they had a strange cover of a whitish material that looks like big ice crystals on a windowpane.
It is very hard and can not be cleaned.
The filters are currently useless!.
What can be the couse of this strange phenemenon?
How can it be cleaned of, without damaging the optic surface itself?

FPS VS. QUALITY

Hello,

Does the FPS has a big affect on the image quality?
I know that the exposure time has to be increased with the FPS rate but does a 10FPS has better information then a 25FPS in it?
I use a SAC7B camera.

to cut IR or not to IR...

Hello,

When using Newtonians (at 15" to 18" diameters)is it worth to invest in an IR-UV filter, as SBIG's or Baader's offers?

I one hand - it should block the stray light at the IR band causing image blurring, but on the other hand - it shall reduce the overall brightness of the image by about 15% and has its own optical limitations.

I would appreciate to hear some of your experience regarded.

Which Filter Wheel ???

Hello,

I interested in a Motorized Filter Wheel for my imaging setup.
I know there are a lot of good CFW's out there so I need the forum pro's opinions. smile

In order that the Motorized Filter Wheel would match my needs it has to:
1. Cost: up to 700$ (without filters..).
2. Wheel that capable to hold Min of>6 1.25" filters.
3. Mororized; with automatic controlling via Maxim CCD or simmilar.
4. As slim as possible, as I use a fast (f/3.9) Newtonian.
5. Can work with SBIG or Starlight CCD's.

Which CFW can you recommand, based on the above?

convert a Newtonian into a Classical Cass

Hello,

I have a (sort of) crazy idea and yet hope it is attainable:
I want to convert a 12" f/5.3 Newtonian into a Classical
Cassegrain.

How can I drill the hole at the primary without damaging the overall figure?
Can I do that using water cut ?
What focal ratio shall I expect from this primery?
