Zenithstar 80 ED II Focusing problem

Posted By Joe Moskowitz

Tried out the new scope last night for the first time. I was using a 1.25" diagonal. I tried a Nagler 13 and a Meade 6-24 zoom lens. With the focuser racked all the way out I still could not get a sharp image with either eyepiece. It seemed like it needed just another quarter turn of the knob. Any suggestions would be helpful.

Thanks,

Need for low power eyepiece?

Posted By Joe Moskowitz

Right now my lowest power eyepiece is a 26mm plosel, I have pairs of Stratus 21's and Nagler 13's for use in a Denk. My scopes are an 80mm W/O refractor and an Orion 11" SCT. I do about 70% observation, and 30% imaging with the Orion and about 90% imaging with the refractor. I seem to want to get a 30-36mm wide angle eyepiece,(Meade qx or W/O SWA, but I'm not really sure if I have a need for one. Any thoughts.
Thanks,
Joe

Canon DSLR's

Posted By Joe Moskowitz

I am in the market for a Hutech modified Canon DSLR. Any thoughts on the difference between the 350D(XT),or the 400D(XTi). It will have the type I filter(UV/IR) and be used mostly for DSO's through a W/O Zenithstar 80 ED II on an Atlas EQ-G. Other than the difference in resolution and the difference in price, are there any other significant functional differences.

Thanks,

Moon

Posted By Joe Moskowitz

This is the first shot with new Hutech Canon 400D. Forgot to put the daylight filter in so the color may be a little off. Since it was a full moon I couldn't get any DSO's. Lot's of moisture in the air. Processed with ImagesPlus.

First DSO's with new Rebel xti

Posted By Joe Moskowitz

These are the first two images taken with new Hutech 400D. First is M8. Four, 90 sec. images, no dark subtract, unguided. I was dissapointed that I couldn't get round stars with a longer exposure on my Atlas EQ-g. I thought I had a good polar alignment. The scope is a William Optics Zenithstar 80 ED II. Processed with Nebulosity. Comments and suggestions are welcome.

Second image is M20. Seventeen frames, unguided no darks. All the same equipment. The only other difference is this image was taken at our darkest site here in South Florida.
Again, comments and suggestions are welcome
Thanks,
Joe

M42

This image is 20, 25 sec. subs. Even with the short exposure the core is blown out.
The image was taken with a Hutech 400D on a WO Zenithstar 80 ED. Guided with an Orion Starshot on a WO Zenithsar 66. All mounted on an Orion EQ-G. Captured with Nebulosity, guided with PHD and processed with Images Plus. Any comments, questions or suggestions are welcome.

Horeshead and Flame nebula

Posted By Joe Moskowitz

This is two, fifteen minute subs. Notice the lovely airplane trail, right through the horse. Naturally, on the second and final shot of the evening. Hopefully, with a few more subs stacked on to these two, the light streak will average out. Equipment is the same as for the M42 I posted. Again, comments welcome.
