FLI PDF

G'day Readers,

Anyone actually have a FLI Precision Digital Focuser (PDF) and can give me a basic idea how it works. Does it fit onto or rely on an existing focuser such as a helical focuser. I thought I saw a photo on Astromart of a Mewlon-250 with a PDF fitted but I couldn't work out how it functioned since the Mewlon has electric focusing at the secondary.

Any info appreciated.

TOA 130 Extender vs Extender Q 1.6X for FSQ

I have read of people success with using the TOA130 Extender (TOA 130EX) with other scopes from the Takahashi line to extend the focal length, including use on the Mewlon 250. Would the use of the Extender-Q 1.6X that is used with the FSQ-106 be just as successful or are these two extenders vastly different in function. I have a Extender-Q 1.6X for a FSQ-106 but I am wondering if the TOA-130 Extender would be better for the Mewlon.

Bino Refractors

A while back whilst perusing the TNR website I notice the availability of a two TOA-130's configured in Bino, not the first time I have seen this configuration. The Astromeccanica (Italian)website had a similar setup using 5" Vixen scopes.

I guess this post belongs in the Refractor or Bino sections but I would be interested to know if Art @ TNR actually ever sold one of the TOA-130 Bino setups and how well it would have performed. I wonder if you have more options with varying magnification compared to using Fujinon 150 Binoculars. Would be a great setup for comet catchers.

Temma Version

Hi all,

Does the Temma 2 that is offered with the Takahashi range of mounts have different versions. Using the Losmandy Gemini as an example, the Gemini is now up to Version (Level) 4. Does Takahashi do software up dates with Temma? What was changed in the transition from Temma 1 to Temma 2 and how to you tell if a mount on offer is at Temma 1 or Temma 2 other than take the sellers word for it.

Operating Temma

What would experienced owners of NJP Mounts consider the best option to operate the Temma 2:
1. Takahashi Temma Hand Controller (Part #THC-0001), or

2. PC using Pocket Sky or Sky Version 5 or 6

I have just dumped my crappy G-11 in favour of a Tak NJP and I noticed that the Temma Hand Controller is now available. I understand that previously Temma could only be operated via a PC using The Sky or Pegasus 21. Suggestions please.

When you unscrew the adaptor (the one with the two thumb screws) that is there to mount the visual/photographic accessories on the back of the Mewlon 250 you are presented with a male threaded segment that is about 70mm in diameter and protrudes about 10mm out from the back. Does anyone know what the Thread Series (Thread Pitch) is for this segment. The reason I need to know is that I am having an adaptor made so I can mount a Clement Focuser onto this scope. Those who have the Tak Cassegrain Focuser might know because there is a female adaptor that fits between the scope and the Tak focuser.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Artificial Star

Anyone know where I can get a Artificial star (for collimation use) like what was available from Digitec and Picostar. Seems that the companies that make this type of accessory have gone out of business.

FSQ Extinct ?

Hearing rumors (first from a post by Richard Best) that the FSQ has gone the way of all the other Takahashi Fluorites and has been discontinued....so why does this scope still appear on the Anacortes, Takahashi America and other Tak dealer websites. Is the rumor fact or fiction and what can we expect for the up and coming product line from Takahashi (the rumored but yet to be seen TOQ).

Being a Newbie to CCD Imaging and currently on a huge learning curve I am now tackling the issue of focusing. What method are you experienced imagers using..Software...Hartman Mask...Stellar Technologies Stiletto IV..Flip Mirror??
