To many folks make double deals here

Your only as good as your word. If I say I'll buy it and you say it's for sale, then shouldn't that be it? Isn't the deal supposed to be complete but the payment and shipping part?

Too many folks here are double and triple dealing and just too impatient to move a sale even after telling you it's still available. I'm not one to jump to a bad rating for someone, but a deal is a deal and my word is always good. I believe if I say I'll buy it and you say it's still available, then the rating system should bind this. Too often though folks here don't care and make multiple deals and first payment is how its done.

Again, having my paypal refunded and email telling me its been sold even with a rating available for both isn't the way we should be conducting business here. I won't give a bad rating too easily, but man this was close.

North America Nebula, hard to see?

We tried the North America Nebula the other night using a 9.25 f/10 SCT and various wide field eps up to 40mm. We noticed nebulosity in the region, but were unable to discern much, even with O111 or UHC filters. Seeing was very good and the veil nebula was beautiful.

My question is, how hard is it to see this North America nebula?

I have the 9.25 XLT mounted to a G-11 GEM. Like you I told myself, first I will learn the visual sky and maybe later do some photography. We use the CG-5 mount at work with a 10" scope. To me, the CG-5 mount is less than I would want to own for photography, but some have. The CGE is solid, but as I've said before, the paint flakes off.

You question of optical differences, well scope to scope could be different. I'm on my second 9.25 after sending back the first due to astigmatism in the optics.

Buy the best scope and mount you can't afford (pun). Build on this through the "years".

Meade UltraWide 4000 series

Anyone know a site for info on Meade 4000 UW's? I want to see pictures of the various offerings between smooth side, flat top or volcano type to the one's with the fold down eyecup. Curious to how many different offerings they produced and the dates.

Now that the 4000's are out of production literature seems harder to find.

EP manufacturers need to keep a history of their eps on their sites.

Another observing chair question

My wife wants to buy to me an observing chair for Christmas. I told her this wasn't necessary and buy me an SBIG imager instead. She said how much is it and I said, "not much more than the chair, just give me your card and I'll handle it".

All kidding aside, will you vote here on my chair. I'll add up the talley and get the chair you folks like the most. Prefer metal fold up type, I think. Thanks, Joe C

Promise kept

No comments needed here. I just promised the William Optics folks that I would mention the fact that all emails were answered every day and everytime I had a question. All answers were helpful and I am on my way to solving the problem I was having with 2" eps and a WO diagonal while trying to use a 6.3 focal reducer with my 9.25.

I'm sorry, but I'm sick and tired of emailing a company and never getting a response. Email is now the communication of choice and as such, if you don't respond you "ain't worth your salt".

So thanks to WO for being a breath of fresh air in the world of unanswered emails.

Static Gun

I used to use a static gun on my albums before playing them. Shoot them with a static gun, blow the dust off with a duster and play. Now you folks in humid environments are asking, what's static?

Has anyone tried this on mirrors or correctors? I didn't know they still made this particular (get it?) model, but I plan on buying one and trying it on my corrector. Couple of shots and blow.

edit: I happened to look at another site that uses a nuclear type tip with air, forget that. Read what they use for that since it's currently in the news (you already guessed it).

Nebula filters

Ok, you guys are right!!! UHC and OIII work well on some Nebulas. For instance, the Veil. I would switch between the two and each had it's advantage, disadvantage. I don't remember which one causes stars to have color fringe, but who cares. Either one made the Veil visible, without them not too visable.

Ok, my next question; Are there other filters that work with Nebula like Dumbell or Ring? The aforementioned filters just dim these objects.

Vixen LVW 42mm

Anybody have a Vixen LVW42mm? I spent the afternoon calculating what low power ep would give me the widest possible field in my f/10 SCT. The numbers point to this ep, with the Pentax 40mm XW being second. With the current Vixen sale, this looks like a good time to get this ep. However, there's not much written on it.

Ruslan Belikov and S&T magazine article

Congratulations to Ruslan Belikov, a name (I hope the same person as in the article) I see here on Astromart, for publishing an article in this months (Jan) Sky and Telescope. The article is on page 91 and is titled "Measuring the Astronomical Unit from Your Backyard".

Way to go to both Ruslan Belikov and Robert Vanderbei.
