What focusing method do you use?

Posted By Brian Swedenburg

i got a Robofocus awhile back. had to setup a system where i could easily remove it/reinstall it, as i need to manually focus when polar aligning. but as for getting truly good focus, and i mean pinpoint focus....it's awesome...pricey (~$400) but worth every penny in my opinion

SCT Electric Focuser

Posted By Brian Swedenburg

I use a Robofocus both for my 10" lx200 and my AT1010 refractor mounted on top with a losmandy dovetail. i set it up somewhat differently from the "normal" setup using velcro and a very strong magnet. i normally align and focus manually as the setup i use is removable. it's really easy and attaching the focuser is a 30 second affair. the robofocus works like a champ and it autofocuses with about 45 sec using focusmax. for the refractor i hand made a bracket using some scrap aluminum i had laying around. if you want i could provide pictures of the setup...it's pretty straight forward.

here's an idea...run some tests and find out what your periodic error, and perhaps a number of other parameters, are and then you'll have something to compare to after you get it back. i'd be very interested in your findings as i have a 10" Lx200 classic i've been thinking about sending in. thx!

What is it?

Posted By Brian Swedenburg

it's a European Starling, Sturnus Vulgaris, a non native invasive species. they are a huge problem up here in the Pacific Northwest, being more aggressive than native species such as the Robin. they are believed to have been introduced to North America by the release of 100 birds in NY city sometime in the early 1890's.
