Can a Meade LXD75 Mount hold a 10" Meade cat OTA?

Posted By Howard Nielsen

One dealer lists the Meade 10" LX90 OTA at about 50 pounds; surprisingly heavier than the 8" which weights around 20 pounds. Clearly the 10" would be too heavy a load for the LXD75 mount.

awesome new magazine

Posted By Howard Nielsen

I enjoyed the magazine and feel it fills a void not covered in other monthly magazines. I did feel that several of the articles were a bit promotional in nature but I still found them very informational and overall, a very enjoyable publication. I plan on subscribing.

Defective Meade

Posted By Howard Nielsen

I just purchased a brand new Meade LXD 75 mount. Almost as soon as I powered it up, the motor shorted out. It does make me wonder about quality control. I guess I will be finding out just how good (or bad) Meade customer service is very shortly.

SC 10" vs. 6" newtonian.

I am not sure about a 10" SCT but I can say that I prefer the views in my 6" f/8 reflector over my 8" SCT for planetary use.

Best Grab & Go Scopes?

Another 100mm Orion F/6 on astrotech voyager mount. Very well-built for the price and excellent for star hopping with wide field views. Thinking about the new Explore Scientific 127mm F/6.5 achro for a bit more aperture.

Suggestions?

Antares W70 eyepieces. Wide fields, low prices and in my opinion, quite sharp and under appreciated.

Need help on a road trip-Western Wa

Posted By Howard Nielsen

Living in Portland, I have the same problem. I cannot remember the last clear night we had. It is very depressing for this hobby with rain and clouds, month after month. When I check weather reports, I find it is usually cloudy over the entire region when it is cloudy on the coast so there is little relief on the east side of the Cascades. I am planning a trip to Death Valley in a few weeks and hope for clear skies there. There are just no good alternatives in this region.
